All right so I did this experiment back in like mid December 2025 with my old flip phone that went missing or stolen (who knows) (R.I.P Nokia 2660 nov20th-10th Jan you will be missed ESPECIALLY sine i put my Kiki's delivery service stickers on ya.. and i had really cool photos that i never uploaded onto my laptop..) and well that was during a time when I had school
and well now its summer break and i have a new (slightly worse) flip phone that my dad got me at like the start of summer break as a (it does NOT have snake and sadly no radio) (but shoutout to my dad I love him) the TCL 4043 cuz uhhh it was the cheapest and only alternative that i could get without ordering from some random ass website
also i would like to mention that yes I have been using my flip as my main phone (as my sim card is in it and all) but I have still been using my "normal" phone at home and i have been carrying it in my bag when i go out as a what if i need to blablabla i can connect to some café WIFI and do said blablabla
now one thing that i took out from my last experiment on this was that I eventually replaced all the time that I would spend on my phone sitting ad watching YouTube instead.
and really I'm wondering how This could actually go now that I don't have school that takes up most of the day and i am instead home all day and have LOADS of time to spare.
So I have very spontaneously decided that as of July 20th - 27th i will fully turn off my smartphone and leave it in a drawer in my desk.
and so obviously I'm still gonna allow myself to go on this website cuz its on my computer and this website is NOT algorithm based and cuz i can and i have free will.
but if we rewind and think about how i spent all day watching YouTube last time i tried this i will instead try to limit myself to like max 5 YouTube videos per day (cuz hey i am NOT gonna miss any hermitcraft uploads)
but uhhh yeah so yk I'll listen to music on my cd player, I'll probably also download sum songs onto my flip cuz GUESS WHO BOUGHT A MEMORY CARD (me.. I did...) and well yk uhhh I have books and if i need to check how much money i got i can just idk go to an ATM (i know shocking right)
anyways I would love to write a second blog about my whole experience during this experiment and i probably will if someone wants to (but really I'm probably still gonna write it cuz i have free will and i can do whatever i want)
wow cool explosions crazy bye wish me luck or something

First of all, R.I.P. to the Nokia 2660. Losing a phone is already annoying, but losing a phone covered in Kiki's Delivery Service stickers AND photos you hadn't backed up is genuinely tragic
Honestly though, I think this sounds like a really interesting experiment
What stood out to me is that you're already aware of the biggest trap: replacing smartphone time with another screen. A lot of people talk about "digital detoxes" and then end up spending eight hours watching YouTube on a laptop instead, so the fact that you're going into this with that in mind is actually pretty smart
Also, I kind of love that you're not approaching this as "technology is evil" or anything dramatic. You're just curious to see what changes when the smartphone isn't constantly available. That's a much healthier way to look at it
And honestly? Summer seems like the perfect time to try it. You've got books, music, a CD player (which is objectively cool), a flip phone with a memory card, and apparently the revolutionary technology known as "going to an ATM"
I'm especially curious whether you'll notice changes in things like boredom, attention span, or how often you instinctively reach for your phone without thinking. Those little habits are usually the most surprising part of experiments like this
Also YES, please write the follow-up blog afterward. Even if nobody asked for it, I think it would be really fun to read how it went after a full week. Did you read more? Listen to more music? Get bored out of your mind by day three? Accidentally memorize every crack in your ceiling? The people need answers
Anyway, good luck!
May your flip phone survive
May your YouTube limit remain intact
May the Hermitcraft uploads be worth it
And may the spirit of the Nokia 2660 guide you through these difficult times
aww thank you!!
I mean I have added 2 batman stickers that i got in some random ass batman toy egg that i bought only cuz it had batman on it (but still will never be as good as my kiki's stickers </3 )
and I am hoping that i manage to find something to do that isn't just binge watching Grey's or accidentally breaking my YouTube limit (hey hermitcraft videos can get very addicting)
AND OFCOURSE I'll write my follow up blog >:) I ain't doing all of this to not do a follow up blog
