This last week has been a test of patience and willpower with how much these clients have tried me. If I'm not dropping everything at a moment's notice, I am the worst worker on the face of the planet. Never mind that I am not management and therefore cannot actually solve their issues, and never mind that management is never available when I work (as I often work overnight and occasionally the morning shift). Obviously, I am the person who deserves to be spat on and berated, right?
Tonight, I had the displeasure of dealing with someone who wanted me to waive his pet fee. I would have been happy to bring the details to my manager's attention when he is back in town later this week, but I had to drop the topic when the customer threatened legal action. I explained that, because of the risk of self-incrimination, it was against company policy to continue conflict resolution the minute that lawyers are brought up. You would think this is understandable and a valid response, because anything I said after that point could have cost me my job if he sought legal counsel. In a perfect world, that would be common knowledge.
This is not a perfect world.
Instead of saying, "I will continue this discussion with management, have a good day," he threw a tantrum and proceeded to loudly declare that I was being ridiculous for refusing to resolve the conflict "just because he brought up lawyers". This, of course, woke up nearly everyone on the first floor, and now everyone who walks by is giving me weird looks.
Today is my Monday. This work week is already going down the toilet, and the week I had to run the hotel is starting to look like a dog walk by comparison.
Do not work in hotels. The pay isn't worth the absolute bullshit that you have to put up with.
