I’ve been visibly alternative since I believe 10th grade and through those years I’ve had my fair share of gazes. Because of this I’m able to deduce whether a look, stare or gaze is from a place of malice, curiosity, or admiration.
Typically if it goes on for too long I throw back a glance of my own and usually the other party gets the message. To me, staring is a threat. I’m a paranoid gal, what more can I say?
It is times like these where my hypocritical side really shines through. Because even though I don’t enjoy people staring at me, I also don’t want them to stop.
I blame my main character syndrome.
Trying to choose how I feel about stares puts my present and child self at odds with each other. I’m longer the angry little girl but instead the teenage girl at the end of her wits.
