Original Poem #1 - Descent

Descent

Beware, Hell’s scent creeps closer
To the nose of a wretched soul,
Whose life is nearing closure,
As the light within his eyes grows cold.

The dawn of stars now blinds him,
Beyond all wicked earthly desire;
His dying soul goes swimming
Down to Hell through smoke and fire.

With claws upon his back, his sweat
Sings out his simple swan song;
No beauty waits for him down here,
Only damned souls, cheering on.

And as his body finally died,
His soul descended, lost and cold;
He wished he could have stayed beside
His bride, before his pride took hold.

For love could not defeat his pride,
Nor save the heart he cast away;
And so he met his final end,
And paid for every choice that day.
