Personally, I'm someone who has struggled with SH for a good amount of my life. I'm currently trying to quit but that doesn't mean I havent had slip ups, a few of them being quite recent. My family has only ever threatened me with punishments if they were to find out I haven't quit but it only makes it worse. Parents should be offering their children a safe place to be open abt their SH and not have to hide it. My family is currently out swimming and I couldn't go cuz my swimsuit would've shown what I've done and since my stuff is still healing it wouldn't have been smart for me to go anyways, but I could've communicated that to my mum if I could just be offered a safe place to be open and honest abt it. And I think it would help so many kids of they could just freely talk abt it and not have to hide it, especially in the summer cuz it gets so dangerously hot and these kids shouldn't have to wear long sleeves or pants becuz they're scared of what their parents might do if they found out. It just would be safer if no one had to hide it

I absolutely agree! Just because you were or are going through something doesn't mean that you can't change, and that change comes with accepting that you need to change! And you're not going to get there with closed doors and shushes whispers, or some immature child that doesn't use common sense but just berates the person.
Sometimes you are at your lowest, and if your parents can't accept, give you respect you deserve as much as help or get you out of the harming mindset then they shouldn't be parents at all!
