Day after day I see people (especially online!) that like to make it clear to everyone that they "hate this" or "hate that". Obviously I myself am not perfect, and I say that I hate things all the time, but I try not to. ESPECIALLY when I am saying it towards a group of people, community or fandom. No matter who they are or what they do, I generally don't like using the word hate. In fact if there is one thing that I hate, it is the word "hate".
Hate is a human emotion and is perfectly normal. Not everyone will enjoy the same things as everyone else, and I think that is what makes us all unique. Some people dislike certain styles, or music, and that's okay! It's great to form your own personal taste and opinions! However, when people decide that they want to let everyone know that they "hate" these certain things, it is just immature. Yes it is okay to hate things! But why does everyone need to know that you hate that thing? No Kayleigh I did not need to know that you hate rock music, why did you take time out of your day to post about that?
Why has it become so normalized to express your hatred, when NOBODY is talking about that thing you hate?? I'm sure everyone has seen those "styles that I don't like videos". Sorry, but why do I need to know that you hate clean girl styles? Just tell me the the styles that you like! It is so easy to express the things that you DO enjoy, without expressing hatred towards things that you dislike.
I also have seen a huge problem with this among the alternative community. Just because you are "alt" does NOT make it okay to hate on non alternative styles. The whole point of alt is expressing yourself, so why are you hating on people for dressing the way that they want?
Hate is something that is unavoidable. You are bound to hate plenty of things in your life time. But instead of posting solely about the things that you hate, why not post about the things that you enjoy? Why do you feel the need to put down entire groups of people down just because of your opinion?
Of course it is always valid to express how you feel about things, but think twice before you post about it. Is it going to benefit people to know that you "hate" this certain thing? How would you feel if you were apart of the group that you are hating on? Is what you are hating on relevant?
So moral of the story, try not to hate on things that are completely irrelevant! You are putting people down for absolutely no reason! You can hate all the things that you want, but the whole world doesn't need to hear about it.
