reminiscing on being a scene kid (which was 5 years ago.. not that long ago) / ramble #29

Gosh i’ve been reminiscing like i’m OLD. My scene kid days were actually like 4-ish years ago, maybe 5… which is not actually that long ago but it really does feel like it…

back when i first became a weirdo emo kid. My whole gimmick though was that i EXCLUSIVELY listened to 2010’s sceney screamo and dissed every band that happened before then.. for what reason? idk.. 😭 

My favorite bands back then were:

1. pierce the veil (to this day still the most beautiful band to bless my ears)
2. sleeping with sirens duh
3. Black veil Brides 
4. bring me the horizon
5. brokencyde and millionares (yes i’m grouping them together..)
6. NEVERSHOUTNEVER!!!! was so obessed with chris drew
7. linkin park (not very sceney weeny but i was obsessed)
8. of course MCR.. but that was way later on when i FINALLY gave them a chance.

of course those weren’t all who i listened to, but i definitely was OBSESSED WITH THEM. (also nirvana but i genuinely can’t stand kurt cobain anymore LOL) I was also into “niche” little bands like Dear Whoever and Picture me broken (BEFORE tiktok found them.. big difference)

I wasn’t a very GOOD well dressed scene kid… infact i was a REALLY UGLY scene kid. It was a combo of strict parents, being insecure, and pre-detransitioning me… MY UGLY HAIRCUT 😭😭 i did not look like a dude i looked like i had a weird flippy bob with bangs 😭

Also i was trying to balance some sort of grunge skater vibe with being scene because i was NOT trying to be caught dead wearing skinny jeans and fitted clothes.. my outfits consisted of: baggy jeans, belts layered to MAXX, big baggy tee that ended up covering my belts anyways, and stacking on SO much kandi. 

no i absolutely did not have big colourful poofy hair and cool accessories. i just looked UGLY 😭 but in my defense i was only just getting into fashion. My style influences were straight men who had completely different proportions and bodies as me.. and some random scene girl on pinterest maybe.

i was definitely a REALLY annoying scene kid, back when gatekeeping and calling people posers was considered less annoying than it is now. I was calling people out for “real scene music” and just was a DICK 😭 when i was being normal though, i would genuinely just read and write Kellic fanfics CONSTANTLY. I don’t think i ever did an ounce of school work. SERIOUSLY was commited to the kellic.

Me and my friend at the time were both really into this fanfic author thekellinunderthevic i THINK. genuinely they are an icon. i mean in hindsight their works were the best.. and high key problematic, but 1000 papercuts made me cry in the front of my history class sooo you tell me.

we were REALLY obsessed with their fic called The Trouble on your lips. i’m SORRY if you’ve read it. but that fic moved my 7th grade heart. it was CAPITVATING. but if you haven’t read it. DONT. it’s not good.. 

i did read the sequel as well.. insane stuff. i hated the ending tho.

as for fanfics i wrote. A lot of them were on paper. And a few ended up on wattpad and AO3. The main one i wrote is actually still public if you are interested.. its not really GOOD per se but it pretty well encapsulates the 7th grade equivalent to shakespeare. soooo if u want the link lmk…

aside from that.. i think the summer after is when i became less of a sceney kid. That’s when i got into bands like Green day, hole, and bikini kill.. my new thing was being a badass punk chick. then ultimately failed and became a decaydance freak..

and time skip to now. i’m just old. and unc. i listen to every genre now… and i’m not mean anymore LOL and also i hate kurt cobain now.. and i only write fanfics SOMETIMES.

anyways thanks for going down memory lane with me.. truly a canon experience for any modern day baby-emo. Funny enough i didn’t really get bullied to my face.. i definitely should’ve. i was butt ugly 😭

also crazy but i think this was even before jaws of life came out.. maybe not crazy for you but it is for me…
