Sashiko Mending and Embroidery

I've wanted to practice darning and mending clothing for a while now, and a friend recently asked me to reinforce the crotch of a fancy pair of jeans (they're like raw organic cotton denim or something; very expensive), so I started learning how to mend using the sashiko style! That's a visible mending style that often uses colorful thread and a variety of fun stitches.

There are such good tutorials on YouTube! I've been practicing techniques on an old pair of jeans, and it's sooo addictive. I'm overjoyed that I found something that I'm excited to work on every day because I've been in a period of indifference/unmotivation for quite some time!

Between learning sashiko and getting back into embroidery, I've also started planning to decorate patches with my friend to decorate our bags! We're planning to do a lot of embroidery on the patches but also plan to incorporate mixed media like ribbons, buttons, beads, and whatever else we can fit on a patch. I definitely want to do a spider web with clear beads as dewdrops, and I want to do one patch that is just covered in sashiko-style stitch patterns. I have so many other ideas for patches, too!

It's all so exciting! I'll definitely upload photos when I finish something substantial. <3
