So, I got my flip phone. Honest opinion? Love it. I still have a smartphone for things I can't get away from, but it's a mandatory thing rather than an addiction now.
A step in the right direction, I feel. Obviously, I still need to get another digital camera and camcorder, but that's not as big of a priority. Would love to have it, but it's not really something to rush when everyone, including me, is short on 💲. Goals are in sight, at least.
One thing I have noticed, though, is that even with me downgrading my phone and being a little more present is how everyone around me is. It's a lot more obvious to see how oblivious most individuals are when just existing in our day-to-day lives. I've also noticed that I'm the only one, even before my switch to a dumbphone, who reaches out to people to check in and keep connections.
Sure, not only me, and always, but the vast majority of the time: it's me. I'm the only one calling or sending the text/message just to say hey or tell them they're doing great and to keep it up. It can be exhausting, but if I don't do that, then those relationships dissolve. It's already hard enough to make friends as an adult, much less keep them alive.
Everyone says, "We should" (insert action of -get together- or -call- or -ect- here). It's just words. Meaningless, try not to be disappointing words. Not that anyone is really entitled to anyone else's time, but still.
I guess I don't really know where I'm going with this. Just random words to spill out of me to put somewhere and pretend they matter. Even if it's just for me. I suppose what I want to say is that I miss when friendships were more meaningful. Lasted. At least when they were easier to make and maintain. Forced to call or write people rather than just like or react to a post they make and claim you're communicating. 😅
At least I like my phone.
