Summer Blues

Maybe it's a result of growing up in the PNW, but I just can't stand summer or sunny weather. I feel like the sun (and especially the heat) just saps my energy and makes every task require 3x the energy. I feel so energized by the rain, and those dark, cloudy skies make me feel like I'm wrapped up in a cozy blanket. I start to feel pretty down after a week or two without any rain, like my body has just dried up and wants to crumble away. But the smell of wet earth when it rains is just heavenly, and the sound is the best part. It rained for about a week straight in the spring and I never wanted it to end. I would just look out the window and smile.

I love when the air is cold and crisp on fall and winter mornings, so much that it stings a little when you breathe deeply. It's nothing like the warm, stale air in summer that feels so suffocating. It makes me feel energetic and alive. Spring isn't so bad usually, because here in the PNW spring is still pretty cold. It's mostly the post-winter and post-holiday blues that get to me in the spring.

We're about two months out from the start of fall, and I'm just waiting for it to be over. It's definitely not as bad as last year (yet, we'll see how bad the heatwaves get this year), but I am definitely ready to get off this ride. I'll be waiting for the leaves to start falling.

Anyone else feel the same way?
