The art of creativity and wonder

Okay so I was watching this really interesting video essay the other day and it really stuck with me and made me have a new outlook on life so I'm going to share it here, so hopefully it can help to lighten someone else's life and give it a little bit more meaning like it did to mine.

It was talking about the political power of trying to train your creative side and romanticising your life (in a more whimsical way). It basically explained that by trying to be more magical and enjoying the little thing in life can help people realise that that there is happiness in the world. Therefore, convincing you to actually make a stand for what you believe in and not just letting the government control people (as you feel too hopeless to do anything).

It also explored how being more creative can help individuals think outside the small box that society has placed on us. This is because it forces someone to create and innovate new and unthought of ideas. Therefore, it allows someone to conceptualise a different society (different to the one we live in today) where people can be more joyous and free. By not being creative, you are being submissive and yielding to the idea that we are stuck in this society- even though their are ways to change this.

I think this is really important in this modern society that is centred around productiveness as this hustle culture to look, act and perform a certain way also corrupts the mind. This is because it not only distracts people from real issues (as they are too focused on themselves) but it also makes creativity seem childish and unimportant. This mainly stems from the fact that being creative often doesn't seem to elevate us in society and sometimes doesn't make a pretty result. However, people often ignore the fact that just being creative and trying to make something in itself has value.

I have tried my best to explain this but if you are interested, I think the video is still really enlightening and it also goes more in depth on the history of creativity and certain philosophical concepts:

I hope this gives someone more motivation in life to try and show/ spread more joy as it has more power than you think (especially if you inspire others to do the same) xx
