The Art of Standing Still in a Fast-Forward World

The Art of Standing Still in a Fast-Forward World
It happened again this morning. I opened my phone, scrolled for less than two minutes, and felt that familiar, heavy knot tighten in my chest.
Everyone is moving. Everyone is changing, growing, achieving, and accelerating. My friends are talking about college applications, weekend plans I missed out on, and milestones that feel miles away from me. It feels like the entire world got a memo about how to grow up, and my copy got lost in the mail.
I feel like I am standing completely still while life is on fast-forward.
It is a desperate, dizzying kind of feeling. You watch the people around you sprint ahead, and you start trying to run too. You try to mimic their pace, to laugh at the right times, to look like you have it all figured out. But sprinting to catch up to a crowd that is already miles ahead just leaves you completely out of breath. It makes you feel like an imposter.
The hardest part is the isolation. When you feel left out, it is easy to convince yourself that you are the only one sitting on the sidelines. You watch group chats buzz and couples walk down the hallway, and you wonder what secret formula for happiness you managed to miss.
But lately, I have been trying to tell myself something different.
Maybe standing still isn't a failure. Maybe it is just a pause.
What if life isn’t a race we are supposed to win, but a movie we are supposed to actually watch? When you are rushing desperately to catch up to everyone else, you miss the scenery of your own life. You miss the quiet moments that are actually meant for you.
To anyone else out there watching the world spin too fast from the sidelines: you are not invisible, and you are not broken. Your timeline doesn’t have to match theirs to be valid. We will find our stride. We just have to learn to breathe while we wait. -✨Conan killed bonan✨
