the girl - a short story

the despondent girl is trapped in a life of sorrow that was once her paradise. in front of her is an empty road, dark and lonely. she hears the cries from the forest, their devastation apparent. her nightgown gently waves in the cold, sharp air, sending a shiver down her spine. she crumbles to her knees, scraping them slowly and painfully, her eyes pour anger.

why can't they hear me?

her arms wobble as she weakly picks herself up and continue on down the bleek road in front of her, dragging her feet, knees bleeding. she falls once more, breaking her arm as she screams out in pain. no one's listening. fingers gently grasping her fracture, she gets up again and continues. once again, she finds herself on the frozen ground with cracks in her skin, cuts and bruises covering her body.

can't anyone see me?

she pulls herself up and slowly trudges, her face shattered. slivers of her own fall to the floor. she stops and watches as she loses herself, overcome by the darkness that she let in.

why didn't they save me?

the girl continues on, leaving pieces of her behind. with every step she takes, more of her body begins to shed itself. the skeleton girl gathers her bones into a pile and lays to rest, for she will never have peace. the forest consumes her, leaving her as nothing forevermore.

it's here.
