Theres a anime I like a lot called "Space Runaway Ideon" which aired around the 80s and its an antithesis to what the original Gundam anime show presented itself as. If Gundam 1978 was by itself a show of how humans can possibly find meaning and understanding more deeper than anything else through something that isn't warfare and conflict, then Ideon is the polar opposite with your back against the wall and no other options left in the world what does a human do in the end? It fights. It fights with all its life worrying about the circumstances and aftermaths later than now. But in the case of Ideon the conflict is derived out of fear of the unknown towards it titular mecha the Ideon and the power beyond unknown limits known as the Ide. It controls and governs everything being the true puppet master of the whole setting of Space runaway ideon. And what I love more than anything about Ideon is its ending and how it handles death. In the final movie "Be invoked: Ideon" Our "heroes" who have slaughtered countless "enemies" are opposed with one final bloodbath and trial against the opposing tribe and then the Ide realizes and awakens. Humanity will only fight out of fear of the unknown in disparity to save itself and in the end never understanding or learning from its mistakes. So thus, the Ideon self-destructs killing everyone in its way our supposed heroes and villains now reduced to nothing but space dust due to the Ide's black and white understanding of Humanity and other worldly never itself even considering a grey middle ground for both. But as all living things die in the end their souls live on and before they pass on to (supposed) reincarnation we are shown everyone reunite and in unity truly understand each other beyond just face value conflicts and wars. We have emotions and share feelings, but Ideon poses a question in the end that is timeless. Should war or any conflict go as far as to end lives of both sides out of fear of the unknown? And in doing so is it right of us to only achieve true peace and tranquility and understanding in the afterlife once our souls are freed?
