I have seen an increase in anti-theism online and I wanted to give my opinion on it.
I feel like most people who are anti-theists are mostly thinking about abrahamic religions. They talk about how all religions are meant to establish authority over others or are just a way to cope but this simply isn't true.
Look at Native American religions, forgive me for not knowing the name of this because I am not well researched about this specifically but there was one Native American religion that had a belief where they were meant to like keep harmony in wildlife or something like that, like keep nature going in the way it's supposed to. How is that harmful?
There are also many smaller nature oriented religions like druidry, many various tribal belief systems, types of paganism, etc.
Look at Buddhism and various Hindu religions, a lot of them seem very beautiful and have a lot of values that are really good. Let me clarify one thing: Hinduism isn't like Christianity where every sect worships the same God. Hinduism is just an umbrella term for a family of religions that share some of the same traditions, they are NOT all the same thing. Different Hindu religions worship different gods. Many anti-theists will argue that Hinduism and Buddhism are no better than abrahamic faiths because of the caste systems that came up because of those religions, however caste systems aren't used in every Hindu religion and to claim that ALL Hindu religions are bad because of one thing that isn't even universal is just so wrong on so many levels.
I want you to think about it like this: a lot of times fandom spaces tend to develop SOMETHING toxic at some point as they gain popularity. Does this mean that ALL fandoms are inherently toxic or that fandom spaces are inherently bad? NO!
On to the point about religions being a way to cope with the fear of death... genuinely what is wrong with that? If believing that there is something after death can help someone worry a little less about death and be able to live their life even a little more in the present, how is that a bad thing? If religion helps someone cope with the death of their loved one because they believe that their loved one isn't fully gone, and is simply in the afterlife / being reincarnated, how is that a bad thing?
I think that when most people claim to be anti-theists, what they really mean is that they are anti-religious authority. I understand having resentment towards religions that have hurt a lot of people, but to act as if every religion behaves the same as Christianity and Islam, or will cause the same amount of pain, is not where we should be turning that anger.
EDIT: please excuse any spelling errors I kinda lost my glasses 😭

Yo_
I totally agree with you. Even though I am an atheist, I would see why someone would want to believe in a religion because of the fear death.
