i tried posting this to r/bpd and my post got deleted by moderators but does anyone else feel that people are constantly invalidating those who have proper BPD diagnoses?
i'm not sure if anyone's going to read this, i literally just joined this website like 15 minutes ago, but for context, i've always seen people saying "you have to be 18 for a diagnosis or you're not valid!1!1!"
well, i'm 18, i'm formally diagnosed by a medical professional, and i made a tiktok video talking about how relieving it is to have a diagnosis and know what's wrong with me. when all of a sudden this person comments, telling me that i have to be at least 20-25 to get a diagnosis.
why are we changing the age!?!?
anyways, to wrap this up, i just feel like even if you are diagnosed with BPD, there are always going to be people out there saying that your diagnosis is invalid. it's very frustrating, it's as if people cannot believe that BPD is a diagnosable disorder.

I'd like to assume the reason why they don't validate 18 as a proper diagnosis age is because of puberty hormones, which us kinda dumb because I feel like puberty is already done by that age or nearing. Our brains aren't fully developed til around 25. I think getting diagnosed early on is beneficial to be able to change habits or manage the disorder. Rather than when your frontal lobe is developed, because it doesn't really absorb changes in routine or new information as well as when it was underdeveloped.
In other words, I agree with you, and I am sorry you're going through this. Don't pay any mind to those who have no knowledge or degree in this field, myself included.
