The Land had Already Eroded

Caught in a current,

One whose pattern is lost on me.

     Rocking, and rocking

It’s the only thing to do.

It is oh so gentle.

 The shore is far away,

Grazing the hazy edge of the world.

How easy it’d be to swim.

Yet I could not rid myself of the pattern.

When I'd walk I would swswayay

I wish to feel the soil beneath my feet,

Though I fear seaweed to be wrapped around my ankles.

     I fear to slip, the harsh slam against the floor;

Rather i’d be gently swept under.

And yet the desire had died.

I cannot tell if it has left me

Or stayed with me so long I had gotten used to it.

I do not want to be left behind,

   Struggling in the sand.

I watch as the waves erode the land and all I do is stay.

   I am still swept under,

A pause. [     of               fear                   ] and I am begging underwater.

Pattern still ingrained to my side,

           Repeating a soft coaxing.

     To stay.

Since I had already eroded.
