The Manson Family

_______________________

March 21 1967

Charles Manson after serving 7 years in prison, for forging checks and transporting women across state lines, was now out on parole and went to San Francisco so fast forward to April and Manson met library assistant Mary Brunner, his first recruit. And he used his charm, manipulation, and guitar-playing skills to lure mostly young women to join his journey.

Surfing with the cult master

There's actually a connection to Charles Manson and The Beach Boys! In the summer of 1968, Dennis Wilson, the drummer of the Beach Boys, somehow befriended Charles Manson and let Manson and his followers stay at his Pacific Palisades home for several months.

After Charles Manson got upset at the band over some song copywriting issues with the song "Cease To Exist"/"Never Learn Not To Love" he threatened Dennis and his children, and so Dennis fled his house entirely, leaving it for Charles Manson and his followers.

By the end of summer 1967, Manson and his followers started traveling in a modified, decorated school bus to tour the country before eventually settling in a base for him and his followers at the Spahn Ranch in August 1968, after their eviction from Wilson's house.

Doomsday and White Supremacy

The Manson Family quickly turned into a doomsday cult when Manson became fixated on the idea of an imminent apocalyptic race war between America's Black minority and the larger White population. Manson told some of the Family that Black people would rise up and kill the entire White population except for Manson and his followers.

Well Charles Manson also was quite the fan of The Beatles and somehow their White albums fueled his so called prophecy and he nicknamed his idea of the apocalyptic race war "Helter Skelter" a song by the Beatles.

Killing Spree in the summer of 1969

The victims

July 1th 1969: Bernard "Lotsapoppa" Crowe was shot by Manson's over something about him assuming Crowe was apart of the Black Panthers, the socialist Black power organization.

July 27th 1969: Gary Hinman was murdered after apparently a money issues, and a follower used Hinman's blood to write "political piggy" on the wall and drew a panther paw, a Black Panther symbol.

August 8th 1969: Pregnant actress Sharon Tate, Jay Sebring, Abigail Folger, Wojciech Frykowski, and Steven Parent were all murdered by Manson's followers by his order. A follower later claimed that Manson had instructed him to go to the house and "totally destroy" everyone in it, and to do it "as gruesome as you can" and the word "pig" on the front door in Tate's blood

August 9th 1969: Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary were picked randomly by Manson and ordered for his followers to break into their house and murder them and they did and wrote "Rise" and "Death to pigs" on the walls and "Healter Skelter" on the refrigerator door, all in LaBianca's blood.

August 26th 1969: Donald Jerome "Shorty" Shea was murdered by Manson's followers.

Caught and the Aftermath

October 1969: Police raided Barker Ranch in Death Valley, arresting Manson and dozens of Family members for auto theft and other minor crimes.

December 1969: Authorities officially linked the cult to the Tate-LaBianca murders after Susan Atkins, a follower, confessed to fellow inmates.

January–March 1971: A highly publicized, nearly year-long trial took place. Manson and his accomplices were found guilty of all nine murders and sentenced to death.

1972: Their death sentences were automatically commuted to life imprisonment after the California Supreme Court temporarily struck down the state's death penalty.

During Manson's trial for the murders of seven people, his debut album, Lie: The Love and Terror Cult, was released in March 1970. Consisting of 13 tracks recorded between 1967 and 1968, it included Manson's og verison of "Cease To Exist"/"Never Learn Not To Love"

November 19, 2017: Charles Manson died in prison at the age of 83.

July 2023: Leslie Van Houten became the first convicted Manson family member to be released on parole.

This might sound crazy. But Charles Manson has always fascinated me.

Have always wondered what it was about him that could allow him to somehow mind control so many people into doing things.

Such a small dude too.
