I woke up this morning at 6.30am as the sun shone dully from its place just above the horizon. I dressed, had a bit of breakfast, cuddled the cat, kissed my boyfriend goodbye and headed to work. Morning traffic is always unpleasant, but I can always cope with a bit of music. Listening to Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" on an MP3 player on the way to work makes me feel like I'm in a movie opening.Β
However, unlike the 1980s film "9 to 5", I actually enjoy my job. My boss is a kind, soft-spoken man and my coworkers are all wonderful people. I'm the youngest staff member, the kid who writes all the articles, the guy who wears funky eyeliner from the Admin room. I'm the writer, the journalist, the artist, the kid who uses a Nokia phone.
My morning was spent researching for my next article, writing my first rough drafts by hand ready for tomorrow's type-up. Lunch out with my mother and then back to work.
I have a project I'm working on, as well as my regular articles. Writing the information sections, even drawing my own infographics, because you won't catch this creative using AI for anything. That's the project, actually: An anti-AI pamphlet, basically, outlining the negative impacts and dangers of generative AI on humans and the environment, as well as offering solutions to how to perhaps use AI more ethically. This pamphlet is meant to emphasis the importance of human thought and creativity.
I have a busy life, what with having multiple jobs, mostly in writing and having a wonderful social life. Community theatre, band, vocal classes, visiting my parents every other night, gym three times a week and helping who I can with what I can.
So, I try to live on day at a time, focusing on the moment, trying to to let my workload overwhelm it, even if I do enjoy all the work I do. I am lucky to have the life I have, so slowing down reminds me to appreciate everything that I have.
