the time i witnessed the police response to a murder

[ TW MURDER/CHILD MURDER/SUICIDE ]

no graphic descriptions of anything

This is a dark story that isnt even mine but i was thinking about it. I wanted to write something because it kinda feels like a fever dream of a memory with how long ago it happened

When i was in third grade i was playing at my friends house in their front yard and i kept getting that strange feeling when something bad has or is about to happen. you know what i mean, i cant really describe it. the gut instinct

I've always been paranoid and anxious though, so i tried to ignore it, until multiple cop cars came speeding down the road past us and stopped a few houses down. Something in me knew that we shouldnt be seeing this so i think im the one who made everyone go inside, but i cant really remember that part.

Anyways, turns out earlier that day a woman had shot her teenage son, and daughter-in-law to death before killing herself and leaving two small children with the bodies. A family member came home from work and found all three of them, to which the cops were called and thats what i saw that evening.

Already crazy to hear about as an 8 year old but even more crazy to have witnessed the police pull up to the scene in person. Naturally, as a child who saw this i wanted to talk about it. Well, i guess my teachers didnt like that because when i tried to explain what i saw to my classmates (who asked, mind you) i was literally kicked out of class and yelled at !!!

I was so pissed and honestly this was probably one of my first moments of "dont let them silence you" even though i didnt actually see anything that bad. I understand why the teachers didnt want kids talking about this but i saw it! i saw the first responders arrive at the house as it happened! and no one wanted to let me talk about it wtf ?

Horrible story, there doesnt seem to be a lot of info about it and every news thing is from the week it happened. nothing else.

Its definitely one of those core memories from my childhood that i think about every now and then and i dont know how it ended.

i really do hope the person who walked in on this, as well as the children have been able to find some sort of recovery this past decade since.
