I have been thinking about a conversation from a while back ago, it was between I and a few aunts, discussing the topic of religion and in which my family's case is, Catholicism. My family comes from Mexico. I could never understand why we continue to follow a religion in which comes from Spanish colonizers who raped, mass killed, erased our indigenous culture, and more, the list can go on with things that even cause problems now in modern day. 

This connects to topic of "Mejorando la raza." (bettering the race), the saying is mostly associated with European ancestry and an overall "look". The "whiter" you look, the better. This saying spreads the message of us ourselves erasing our indigenous culture, roots, and connections. I have seen it in person, and it has even happened to me. My own mother has told me, "Casate con un Blanco" (get married to a white man.) I wish people would see their own culture as beautiful and something meaningful instead of idolizing and seeing other people's culture and way of living as "superior"
