Growing up the few black girls in a majority white school teaches you something : you play by a different set of rules. Suddenly you're not just having a bad hair day, you're just ugly.
But when you become "pretty" in less than a year? Nobody talks about what that does to you. The whiplash is intense, the people who once looked straight through you suddenly can't stop staring.
Nobody tells you how to deal with this either, you're just expected to know.
Icky work. Truly.
