Uhh idk yapping

I feel like people are overly gatekeepy with alternative subcultures. I’m not talking about the very reasonable and important conversations about how important music and politics are, because that’s legitimately the main point.

I think it’s crazy how some people freak out about like, people who aren’t all in yet when it comes to the sub or if they think something about it that is wrong due to misinformation or just not knowing

I think instead of more “oh that person is such a poser for a, b, or c” we really need to see more people helping give guidance to people who are new to the subculture

And just because someone’s outfits don’t 100% fit your idea of what it should, or if they listen to more of the mainstream alternative bands doesn’t necessarily make them a poser

If it bothers you so much, offer to give them advice. Don’t just be a jerk about it.

Also, like, Emo and scene don’t 100% require skinny jeans. Bootcut (and occasionally flare etc.) jeans can 100% be worn and the outfit could still be considered “emo” or scene.

Discouraging people who are new to the alternative scene kind of feels like it defeats the purpose.

There are times where it is appropriate to mention things that may not be ideal, but if you are going to share your opinion, thoughts, or advice, please try to do it in a helpful or supportive manner.

Also, keep in mind that some of these people are kids/younger teens. It’s better to try and give helpful, well meaning advice and/or music recommendations, as opposed to just calling them posers and being a dick about it

And again, there are some people who don’t healthily contribute to subcultures (disregarding the politics, etc.) But that really doesn’t mean we have to be jerks over boring outfits or listening to more popular bands

Now if anything I’ve said is just blatantly wrong, please bring that to my attention, in a respectful manner please
