unfixed thoughts about consciousness and blissful ignorance

i tend to hear that consciousness is a burden because some truths can break someone’s exposure. existential dread and all that. at first i believed intelligence itself isn’t a burden; just a gift bestowed to a species too weak to handle it. but as i return to this thought; that claim has been a little reshaped.

the notion of there being truths that are harsh depends on how a person responds to it, no? wouldn’t that be subjective? does the perception of intelligence itself breaking man’s sanity present some form of intellectual deficiency? or do we really have limits?

gatekeeping knowledge is dangerous— because that leads to ignorance. on the other hand, some must be kept to preserve the stability of the mind. but for me, i personally believe that we can “expand” our comfort zone. i could be wrong in believing that in the first place. working on it. but let’s say, we build a tolerance. we consume, we rationalize, we tolerate, we become more comfortable as we consume more and more content. could we implement that to learning? can our comfort zones grow so large, that we begin to tolerate facts that  would make the average man go mad? that way, knowledge itself could flow freely.

maybe this is a common thought process held by many today. so i hope i dont sound so condescending. not a lot of my questions are rhetoric here, so if anyone has thoughts i can add to this, please comment!!
