As people, we are in a constant state of performance. Whether it be in the space of others or even by ourself, we constantly nitpick ourselves, trying to present the "best us".
People nowadays are too scared to say what they feel, think, want, and more. Subconsciously we're all trying to be "liked". Even if you consider yourself to not be a people pleaser, human praise will always make you feel a sense of like.
We don't let others see our true colors more than half the time, don't we get tired of it? Having to pretend to be something, someone, you're not.
The following quote by Albert Camus had me thinking; "Man is the only creature who refuses to be what he is"
Not just the meaning of the quote had me thinking, but the linguistic choice of word for us. "creature", we are creatures. Maybe even monsters if you really think about what we as humans have done to our environment.
We have denied ourselves of our true nature, the habits, the jobs, everything we are accustomed to (as an American), comes not just from ourselves but from outside forces. Capitalism works us till we can't. You don't hate Mondays; you hate our capitalist society.
Living this way of life has made us less true to ourselves, being taught since we were young that we need to find a worthy job and try to survive, maybe build a family even. But there's so much more to life, so much to explore and know.
We're not supposed to work every day, we're not supposed to depend on cars, we're not supposed to feel so miserable all the time. Ingrained in our heads, is the fact that we have to fit into this society, pretend to be "normal".
And those that do stand out, those that do learn, those that do not just let the curriculum guide them, are considered weird and out Ruly, an unethical way to live.
I'm not a very good writer; I wrote this in like 15 minutes but I hope you find some sense in what I said
