ok not even trying to be a debbie downer but in middle school especially, i always thought i got pity compliments, and it drove me insane bc i could never decide whether or not they were genuine. i frequently got complimented on my appearance whenever i went to town square or like aldi or smth, and whenever i did i always thought it was out of pity, not because i thought i was just so ultra chopped and no one could ever think lil ole me was cute, but just because i felt like even if i was it wouldn't be such an outstanding beauty that had to be called out, ykwim?? so thennn, i thought that they really thought i was kinda funny looking and they just complimented me to compensate. it's also because i didn't have my contacts back then and my glasses make my eyes so tiny bro like its ridic dic. i frequently got complimented by people older than me rather than my agemates as well, so i felt like they were more inclined to try and uplift a chopped teen.
on a more hopeful note though, even though those thoughts still cloud my mind a little bit whenever i get complimented--i kinda just learned to ignore it and take the compliment LMAO. i'll never truly know their intent behind it so i'd rather just take it at surface level instead of stressing over something that'll vary from person to person without me truly understanding. i'm also less insecure about my glasses and wear them out a decent amount of times. if im being honest i don't even think i look chopped with them on, im moreso worried about how other people would look at me with them on so i kinda started wearing them as like conditioning to not gaf....#rejectiontherapy. its lowk working tho so !! i still care just not as much as i did before xx
