Weird Encounters: Social Interactions of a Goth (Rant)

Since I was young, I was always somehow off-putting to adults and my peers alike. When I was a kid, my bright rainbow-vomit outfits and awkward yet freakishly weird demeanor scared people away from me. I was the weird girl who played with bugs and talked about ghosts and dead things. Going to church I couldn't even fit in, I tried getting baptized and somehow come out of the water with a bloody nose, and scaring the shit out of my pastor, (this actually happened to me lol). As I got older, and my appearance started to match my interests, behavior and thoughts, people have never treated me any other way except for like a freak, which I am used to. In modern times, goth fetishization and acceptance has become widespread across the internet and somehow has managed to creep its way into my IRL interactions, which both is interesting and horrible to say the least. For the good interactions I can't say I hate it, just feels a bit unusual to be called "cool" for the first time ever by normal people. I never really saw myself as "cool", tbf I was a loser all of high-school and after, so I am not used to people perceiving me otherwise. NOW A DISCLAIMER: I am not a prude!! Quite the opposite actually, sexuality, kink, and sexual liberation, (or lack thereof), are important parts of being human HOWEVER I think a lot of y'all need to learn a little something called CONSENT when discussing these topics. I had a dude walk into the tattoo shop where I work to get his nose pierced, which is normal, so I told him to fill out the consent form per usual. Normal conversation ensued, until he asked if I was going to be the one piercing him, which I was, since my mentor was on a break, and these are piercings I get paid to do and I have done a million of them before. I took this guy back to my booth, went over care, went over order of procedure, and normal small conversation where we talked about our jobs, in which I had mentioned that I had a husband who was a welder just like him, but after that and me marking both sides of his nostrils he made the strangest conversation with me. When I had asked him not to touch the markings I made because I had already cleaned the area, he put his hands behind his back and said, "I will do whatever you want, I'm in your domain Miss". He proceeded to have me re-mark him SEVRAL TIMES because "the placement was off". Mind you I was wearing a tank top dress, I was standing up and he was sitting in the tattoo chair in my booth, eye-level with my chest, (yes, he was looking). After I finally got the placement where he wanted it, (which was where I had it initially), he said something along the lines of "I can tell you're getting excited to pierce me." YUCK!! I told him to stay as still as possible, so I don't accidentally poke him with the needle in a place where I'm not piercing and I don't injure him, he said, "It's okay, make it hurt". Now I may be a bit sadistic, but I take my job VERY seriously and I only partake in those kinds of activities with MY HUSBAND. After I did the piercing, I went over proper aftercare and such, he kept trying to talk to me more about the piercings he's gotten, which he mentioned he had a genital piercing (I didn't ask). I shooed him away and went out for a cigarette.  The whole interaction was weird and gross and made me want to peel off my skin. I miss when guys thought goth girls were ugly and mean, instead of treating us like "Dommy Mommies who want to inflict pain on you ;)". Like ew, WHY?? I can't even do my job without someone being GROSS. I hope this fad dies soon.

all that weird sketchy crap stems from the core disconnect between the subculture and overall surface level aesthetic - it's something which has happened over the course of quite a few years and it's now practically impossible to mention goth culture without someone equating it to e-girl mommy dom crap.

anyway, sorry you had to deal with the icky guy. :o
