What An Interesting Day Today 8.18.26- Journal Series

I had to wake up tremendously early to take my car into the local mechanic because I have been dealing with a sunroof leakage issue for over a year now, and it got progressively worse. For a long time I was certain that the drain hose was completely disconnected from the drain hole in the sunroof behind my a-pillar panel on the passenger side. I took my car into the dealership mechanic last week for a pre-trip inspection because I am going to be driving nearly 1000 miles round-trip between Missouri and Wisconsin to visit my family. I told them about the sunroof leakage and what I believed to be the cause of that. They took it in and they came back and said that they didnt see it disconnected so the would have to completely remove the A-pillar and inspect the drain hose for tears or rot which would take a few hours and would have costed me $218 an hour JUST to diagnose the issue, not even repair it. I said "hell no" and took it to my local mechanic today.

While I waited for them to look at everything, the main and only mechanic of the lot was chatting with me in the lounge connected to the work garage and he was talking about how busy he is with four kids and two jobs and how much he pays in groceries and bills. He seemed like a chill guy. I noticed a nautical star tattoo on his inner arm and usually to me, that is like a huge "former emo/core" tattoo. Nine times out of ten, if someone has that tattoo anywhere and theyre in their late 30s-early 40s. they had an emo or scene phase in the early 2000s. He turned on the movie Ted for me and went into the shop to work. I can hear his music playing, and noticed it was very distinctly late 00s scene metalcore. I couldnt put my finger on who the first artist is. But then...I heard one fo my favorite bands ever start playing. The Liars Club by Coheed and Cambria. I was quietly singing along by the garage door and he looked over and I told him that I loved that band and I am seeing them live again for the third time next month. He smiled and asked if theyre as good live as their studio stuff, and I said "100%". He told me he hopes his teenage son gets into a band cause he plays instruments. Then I heard Buried Myself Alive by The Used. Then he listened to my favorite Taking Back Sunday song Timberwolves at New Jersey. And right as I was about to leave it was playing Lip Gloss and Black by Atreyu. This guy, in rural Missouri of all places, had excellent music taste and it seems I read that nautical tattoo star correctly. I can sniff out a former emo kid anywhere, no matter how much they change in appearance from the scene days.

Anyways the other guy working in the body shop found the issue of my car and I WAS right. The drain hose was completely disconnected. The dealership was bullshitting me to try to get extra money out of me. He just pushed it back up and synched it to the ceiling with some zip-ties. The entire repair took about a half hour max. I only got charged $80, which may seem like a lot, but keep in mind, the dealership was likely going to try to get nearly $500 out of me for this 30 min easy fix. I fucking love this repair shop, they never EVER have done me wrong, and they always do the job well for affordable prices. And I got to hear awesome music while waiting. It was a great start to the morning, and I was still able to make it to my doctor appointment.

As for the doctor appointment, I went to see him to rule out IBD for the chronic GI issues I have been dealing with. We all concluded it was the sugar free soda, since the issues started when I started drinking the soda and my GI problem have slowly been improving since I stopped drinking it. He said just to monitor it and if it gets bad again just to come back to him. We also checked out other problems I've been avoiding confronting for a long time. The fluid pockets in my legs and calf swelling? 100% early varicose veins and possible early CVI. He said it wasn't really worth seeing a vascular specialist for this since varicose veins are typically benign and just a cosmetic issue for people and the treatment for both CVI and varicose veins is mainly compression socks to prevent it from getting worse. Easy, I can buy those OTC. He said that the cost of vascular specialists for varicose treatment is quite expensive, and I just said, I am gonna treat this at home since really the worst I deal with is occasional aching and itchy skin. If it was interfering with my life more, then I would possibly consider intervention but not at the moment. Labs still looked good last time so he wasnt interested in doing any labs, and I will be coming back in a few weeks for my six month lab draw anyways. The only reason I turned down my routine labs today was because I didnt fast, and I prefer to fast when they take my blood for lipids testing. Eating can mess with the results, especially the triglycerides and I want accurate numbers. I'm just glad I can take a deep breath and know that I am going to be fine. I will take this as a win, I did something that usually triggers my OCD really bad and I got through it. DIY ERP therapy! I wish I had a therapist to tell them that I did a big thing today in regards to that.

The song of the day is:
