Why I Love the Absolute Crap Out of Halloween (And No, I Won't "Grow Up") 🎃

Let’s get one thing straight: if you think Halloween is just for little kids collecting fun-size Skittles, you are fundamentally wrong.
I’m seventeen, and my mom has already dropped the “aren't you getting a little old for this?” line approximately four times this month. Like, no, mother dearest. I am actually at the peak age for it. Halloween is superior to every other holiday on the calendar, and I am here to defend its honor.
Here is exactly why I love the absolute crap out of October 31st.
1. It’s the Only Time I Can Escape My Own Brain
Being a teenager in 2026 is a lot. Between keeping my grades high enough to avoid a lecture, figuring out my future, and dealing with social hierarchy nonsense, my brain constantly feels like it has 47 tabs open at once.
But on Halloween? I get to put on a cheap wig, liquid latex, and a thrifted velvet coat, and I am not me anymore. I’m a Victorian vampire or a feral 90s grunge zombie. There is something incredibly therapeutic about hiding behind a mask where nobody expects you to smile or act normal.
2. The Absolute Supreme Aesthetic
Summer is entirely overrated. I hate sweating. I hate bright sunlight.
Give me fog machines choking the front lawn, orange strobe lights, and those fake spiderwebs that get stuck to your lip gloss. I love the smell of bonfire smoke and decaying leaves. I want to watch terrible 2000s horror movies in a pitch-black room until 3:00 AM while eating candy corn (yes, it's good, fight me) until my teeth hurt. It’s cozy, it’s moody, and it's perfect.
3. The Pure, Unadulterated Chaos
Every other holiday comes with massive emotional baggage.
  • Thanksgiving: Awkward political arguments with relatives.
  • Christmas: The crushing pressure to buy perfect gifts with money I don't have.
  • Valentine's Day: A literal reminder of being single.
But Halloween? The vibe is just pure chaos. You dress up like a freak, walk around in the dark with your friends, scare some people, eat your weight in high-fructose corn syrup, and go home. There are no expectations. No formal dinners. Just pure, unhinged fun.
So yeah, my pumpkin on the porch is already rotting, and my combat boots are covered in mud, but you couldn't drag me away from this holiday if you tried.

Stay spooky, losers. 🎃 - Bonan killed Conan out
