Why is Eng Considered a main/international language?

Yes if you google most spoken language, English will likely appear but it’s only because they forced it. with the English going and trying to make India their territory to much more….

But to non English speakers they make English mandatory to be learned in schools all around the world like I don’t know why English specifically there are much more interesting languages than English

Kinda ironic how I’m talking about this but I’m using English because most of the people on here mostly know English

Yes I did have this thought In the shower

Portugal is an interesting example. In the recent years, there have been reports of young portuguese kids speaking in brazilian accents and saying words that are only used in brazilian portuguese. But to many portuguese people, that's more concerning than, say, say a random english word in the middle of the sentence.

It's a very interesting thought, many times I thought that perhaps if the second world war went differently german would be a commonly used language in europe, or perhaps russian!

As for the rest of the world I could say it's probably a thing related to soft power: movies and music and all the rest, english is a language that reached many people, on why it's the main taught one I don't exactly know the historical reasons other than the ones related to the war, where I live in my middle school you had to study more languages than just english, so when I was 13 I also could speak spanish very well! (now I completely forgot it, but I could relearn it)

the British and their historical reach is basically what made English widespread while the United States and their influence made it stick through modern times.
