(okay if i sound ableist js lmk)
okay idk what ts is abt but its lowk targeted towards ppl who self diagnosis with autism and then do weird stuff bc of said autism
idk man when it comes to like depression n shi like okay i understand but when its like the "popular that makes me different and cooler then the other quirky" ones like autism, bipolar, bpd, ocd, tourettes and mpd
like ofc im not trying to say mental illness doesnt matter or shouldnt be looked into but most of the time its gated community 12yos who wanna seem different. especially on tiktok or even try to make money off of it.(that one Tourette girl...)
it kinda reminds me of those rcta ppl everyone wants to be korean japanese and chinese but none of them ever wanted to be black lmao
ppl wanna be autistic and have ocd but im yet to see anyone claim to have down syndrome
anyways i feel bad for those people who actually have mental illnesses and cant talk to someone about it or look for support because someone out there is gonna think they r lying/looking for attention bc of these exact same ppl who larp it for funies and saying the n word for no reason

Yeah I agree. Dont worry you arent being ableist (this is coming from someone w/ an actual mental illness).
I think that recently autism in particular has become a strange trend. There is this need to put labels on everything, so when someone has something that could possibly be described as autism, they decide that it would only make sense. Hyperfixtations are something that a lot of these people claim to have, when in reality a neurotypical person can also have it.
I bet it comes from not having a good understanding of a mental illness, and wanting to fit into a group.
I have schizoaffective (schizophrenia w bipolar) so i feel like i can say more on the bipolar part. I do think that in general a lot of these things are kind of over-diagnosed. With the rise of screens, and how little a lot of the people you are describe sleep ( considering a lot of people who self diagnose are chronically online ), plus just general hormonal mood shifts. All of these things can cause an instable mood.
I think BPD is trendy with the "e-girl" archetype lol. I don't really have much else to say about it. With BPD and autism specifically, it seems like there is a trend where men seek out these kinds of women, so these young teenage girls try to make themselves more desirable by doing so. (sorry im only talking about women, I am a woman, so i feel like i have a better understanding of what exactly happens)
OCD has been completely bastardised into meaning "very clean person" -_-
I remember when I was around 12, it was covid. I thinnk this is where it all started. The whole DID shit. I knew this guy who claimed he had it. I called him out on his bullshit, I was right. There is something about these mental illnesses (DID, BPD, tourettes) that i think young teens think makes them more interesting.
Yeah. Honestly though. I can not believe all of these things are seen as desirable now. My mental illness has ruined my life. I cant walk into certain rooms because of it, I have extreme issues trusting anyone, it isolated me socially. And guess what, because of these people, nobody takes what I have seriously. My own older sister was telling my mom about how she thinks that my diagnosis isnt real. (. There is so much hatred for actually mentally ill people.
oh and the RCTA thing, i bet its a similar philosophy. Asian cultures have become so idolised lol, but they dont see the bad side. Everyone wants to be special, thats all.
U COULDNT HAVE WORDED THAT BETTER. also im so sorry about people not taking u or ur mental illness seriously. its such a sad and weird thing that people have to go thru even since the beginning of time and these chronically online loser js have to add more problems to ur plate</3

Probably because autism, OCD, and kinda BPD are somewhat one of the common conditions people get diagnosed with, and that opens up a gate for others to read into the symptoms of said condition, see that they relate to one part (even though each condition is complex) and assume they have it and/or down play it as a personality type rather than a disorder.
If we’re talking about the ones who ACTUALLY fake it/dont know what they’re talking about, they usually water down these conditions a lot. Like, autism=geeky/quirky, bpd=mood swings, ocd=meticulous
Let’s also not forget about the people who romanticize “bipolar gfs” and “autistic nerdy bfs” or some other shit that people online are coming up with… I’m sure that contributes to the rise of people pretending to have mental conditions…
If this sounds offensive in any way please let me know
this is so true tho (dw u sounded js fine lol) but this is like for the people who acc water it down to as u kinda said personality traits n shi pmo sm also those bipolar gf shi pmo sm dude its so creepy OMG AND ALSO those guys who sexualise "autistic girls" n then its js them describing a super excited child like js ew man
