YOU ARE ALLOWED TO OUTGROW WHO YOU WERE
Sometimes the hardest person to leave behind is yourself.
We carry old versions of ourselves for years.
The person who made that mistake.
The person who believed something we no longer believe.
The person who stayed when they should have left.
The person who left when perhaps they should have stayed.
The person who was afraid.
The person who hurt someone.
The person who allowed someone to hurt them.
And somewhere along the way, we begin confusing our history with our identity.
But your past is evidence of where you have been.
It is not a contract determining where you must go.
Other people may remember an older version of you.
Sometimes they may even prefer that version.
People become comfortable when they know which box to put us in. When we change, the labels stop fitting.
And that can make people uncomfortable.
But you are not obligated to remain recognizable.
Growing sometimes means contradicting yourself.
It means admitting:
I don't believe that anymore.
I don't want that anymore.
I was wrong.
I have changed.
There is no shame in those words.
There would be something far stranger about experiencing decades of life, meeting hundreds of people, making mistakes, learning, losing, loving, questioning everything...
and somehow remaining exactly the same person.
Change does not erase responsibility.
We still have to live with what we have done.
We still owe apologies where apologies are deserved.
We still carry consequences.
But responsibility and imprisonment are not the same thing.
You can acknowledge who you were without allowing that person to decide who you will become.
Perhaps that is another part of building ourselves.
Not destroying the past.
Not pretending it never happened.
But deciding which pieces deserve to come with us...
and which ones have already taught us everything they had to teach.
You are allowed to outgrow your beliefs.
Your fears.
Your relationships.
Your ambitions.
Even your old idea of who you were supposed to become.
Because growth sometimes requires something that feels almost like betrayal:
becoming someone your former self would not recognize.
And perhaps one day you'll look back at the person you are today with the same distance.
I hope so.
It would mean you kept moving.

TIENES DERECHO A DEJAR ATRÁS QUIEN FUISTE
Pero tu pasado demuestra dónde has estado.
Crecer significa a veces contradecirte.
Significa admitir:
Ya no creo eso.
Ya no quiero eso.
Me equivoqué.
He cambiado.
Tienes derecho a dejar atrás tus creencias.
Tus miedos.
Tus relaciones.
Tus ambiciones.
