YOU will need to put in some effort

guys, gang, fellas, please, i implore you to put in an ounce of effort.

there are so many blogs like “be friends with me please” “add me” “someone talk to me” unfortunately for you…YOU have to do it if you want it. you have to browse the blogs and comment on things you like and add like minded people, you have to go to the forums and interact with people and maybe start a conversation.

if you want interesting conversations, you need to have interesting convo starters, you CAN’T just say “hi lol” and expect friendship! people have their interests on their profile, ask about a movie you guys have in common, talk about a song you both love, “out of these 3 books which one do you want to meet the author of?” you need to force these interactions, they won’t fall out the sky, I’m so sorry.

introduce yourself in the forum introduction category, you might make some friends. check out other people’s intros, see if there is anyone that catches your eye!

filter the blogs by your interests, do you like fashion? you want to read about some movie review? you can search for keywords in the top right search bar and it’ll take you to blogs, forums, and even users with said keyword!

This isn’t snapchat, there is no “quick add” section. this isn’t instagram, there is no “people you may know” tab. you will have to put in some work! you will have to flesh out your profile, you need to post blogs that people will see, you need to INTERACT with the site!

posting a blog that looks like

Subject: add meeee pllssss

Content: I’m new i promise im fun guys

is NOT the way to go about this. you’ll get bored and ditch the site! I wouldn’t want you to lose out on such a fun place because you’re not interacting with it properly. So please please please, work on breaking out of your shell and making the first move!

this can be you and all your new internet friends, just put your foot through the door<3

Good one Ziv and thanks for bringing this along through the powerful and high-tech Zivgorithm that just been implemented on this website with the reinstation of Profile Badges.

This is what I actually did when I first came here and thankfully it came a long way.

I've been sharing this same advice to some over here for a while with similar Blogposts.

And about that this part here.....

"introduce yourself in the forum introduction category"

Honestly I haven't done that and I've said it here before I don't really have anything interesting to share about myself and that's the same reason why I haven't added much on my profile about myself. LOL XD

So that's that.

Again Nice Blogpost. :)

I've also previously offered similar advice to someone who was a little anxious about finding friends on here, mainly when it comes to conversation - take a moment to look at someone's profile, read their About Me or any introductory blogs they may have written, check out their interests table, and see if you share something in common! Heck, you can ask them to tell you more about something on their profile that you don't know much about, and if you get an answer, I would be surprised if they responded with something like "go away and do your own research lazy git." Bear in mind that not everybody will respond to you, that's just what happens online, but dropping a comment on their profile saying something like "I really like how pastel your profile looks, and the font choices match perfectly, good job!" or "bro, I used to watch the Numberjacks when I was a kid, man this takes me back! You have a favourite villain?" or "I've never read the Pictures of Dorian Grey before, but it looks like you enjoyed it! What's the basic premise, and what were your thoughts about the story and characters?" realistically shouldn't hurt you at all, and if they're overly nasty to you, block and move on (report if they're breaking the rules ofc)!

I also second finding blogs you're interested in, I wrote a Debian-related spiel a few months ago and one person commented on my choice of distro and shared some of their experience as a long-time Linux user, and while the conversation was short, it was highly enjoyable! Go and comment on blogs you're interested in, find profiles that have some of your interests, and make friends!!
