Youtube feels so overwhelming now

i feel like nobody wants to watch slow, minimally edited content anymore, or at least it isn't pushed in algorithms how it used to be. (most) videos now are about 10-12 minutes long, in which in between every sentence is a jump cut to the next, so much so you can't even hear them clearing their throat, or pausing to think. everything is a jump cut. everything is rushed, manufactured in a way that's proven to keep your attention. (often times when you don't even actually care about the topic)

this is mostly a problem with commentary channels, but i feel like its becoming a way more prevalent problem in the gaming space as well. for example, i have genuinely seen people play games like COD (or any fps game for that matter) and cut after every kill, to about 10 seconds before the next one, no matter the context. people play games like league of legends, a game where matches typically take 35-40 minutes, and edit it down to 10-15.

what happened to watching people play 40 minutes of basically unedited minecraft with their friends? why are so many people so afraid of just listening to people talk while playing games instead of constantly seeing the most action, dopamine filled gameplay in the background?

and it genuinely wouldn't even be that much of a problem if it wasn't EVERYTHING you see now, it's the standard, it's the only thing people will stay to watch, it's the only thing that keeps the average viewers retention from immediately diminishing and clicking off to find another video that can keep them captivated for more than 5 minutes at a time.

the youtubers who have engaging conversations with their audience, who don't treat their channel like a brand, or purely a way to make money, the people who hyper-analyze their content into becoming something impossible to click away from, DON'T exist anymore on a large scale how they used to. and when it comes to streamers, i'd genuinely rather just watch the VOD most of the time.

i have found a good handful who still genuinely interact with their audience, and i do understand how hard it becomes once you actually have a big enough fan base to interact with everybody, nor is that what i'm asking.

i want the people i watch to feel human, i don't want to feel attention grabbed 24/7, oh look at this, look at that, it's been 20 seconds and you're bored of that already so look at THIS!

anyway that's all. let me know if you have a similar experience on youtube or any other video sharing platform because maybe i just have a really bad algorithm.

I think everyone would agree with u tbh , but watching long-form content is wayyy too hard for me maybe cuz of my adhd ıdk ı think ıts a mix of adhd+ınstagram tiktok/ınstagram makes ur attention span like 5 seconds max and ıve been trying to quit ı haven't watched any short form content in 12 days . you said ''i have found a good handful who still genuinely interact with their audience'' can you recommend some creators to me plzzz

definitely delete the apps now and make sure all your friends have somewhere else to reach you. keeping the apps while trying to avoid a core feature within them usually doesn't end well. im also diagnosed with adhd so i completely understand.

as for recommendations, i really really recommend luvstarkei! they play alpha minecraft or just regular, have tons of lets plays, live stream quite often (although they're going on break for about 3 months) and they're a really interesting creator. i think you'd really enjoy them!

As a "YouTuber" I've found with gameplay specifically, if I'm not insane the entire time, the video will get less than 10 views. The algorithm hates content that doesn't immediately smack everyone who clicks on it with a shot of adrenaline. Meanwhile, those who preferred unedited content went to Twitch. So gently edited gameplay either gets buried by the YouTube algorithm, or ignored by the people who once enjoyed it. I think one cause of this was consoles adding the share button, because that resulted in YouTube getting flooded with tons of unedited content that oftentimes was borderline spam, making it even harder for YouTube to sort between gameplay with engaged hosts and said spam.  But obviously the real reason is just YouTube becoming mainstream and trying to keep more generalized audiences engaged rather than catering to individual human involvement and gamers :(

right. i don't exactly think it was avoidable in any way nor will it ever go back to the way it was, so i personally really have a strong respect the youtubers that still produce quality videos and that make true engaging content. i just wish youtube let you stay in your own little corner of a feed, but how would they make any money that way lol

I don't know how well it'll work once Google closes Android to outside Apps, but I currently use NewPipe. It's a YouTube client that keeps all your subscriptions in order :) You can also just go to your subscriptions feed on YouTube, I think a lot of people stay on the Home Page without checking there first.

commentary channels suck big time

since some can MILK someone for content (I'm looking at you, Mr Pegasus)

and it also doesn't help the fact that it's a big probability that you're watching content made with ai in any form

best is to just find a type of content you like and glue to content creators who actually are human

ive definitely found my "niche" of purely human content creators as dystopian as that sounds, its moreso a general worry for the majority of the population who is so sucked into this hyper editing type of content.

youtube got tiktok-ified if you get what I mean

they gotta adapt somehow to those low attention span suckers

by error; ; Report

definitely and its so sad

by youaredoomed; ; Report

guess all we can do is search for "good" youtubers and ball it

or just drop it, like I did with instagram and tiktok

by error; ; Report

thats exactly what i did !!

by youaredoomed; ; Report

dropped tiktok and insta?

by error; ; Report

oh yes yes sorry, i should've clarified. but yes i havent had tiktok in 2 years and i left insta about a month ago!

by youaredoomed; ; Report

2 years?damn what a performance

honestly not too hard to kick for me, ig was a little harder!

by youaredoomed; ; Report

was quite the opposite to me

I never really got used to IG and I rarely sit and watch reels on it, but they've became too political for my liking and it's also probably populated by bots

tiktok was really cuz I didn't want to quit my streaks, but I got so tired of that shithole

and instead, I've been using this platform to interact with people

and it's actually not bad at all

by error; ; Report

wow complete opposite for me! you are right about the bot population on IG. i followed *mostly* political accounts on instagram, so it was a little hard to kick it. i use other sources to get my political information now however, so once that happened, it was easy to kick. i left tiktok before they even had streaks im pretty sure.

ain't something that I'm invested in

I'm already melancholic so why would I need an extra plate of "fuck you" from your average money laundering politicians

i completely understand that, it's definitely valid. this site is way better anyway :3

by error; ; Report

im having a lot of fun on here so far!! i hope it stays active

by youaredoomed; ; Report

I'm very mixed about it, sure it's better than spacehey, but it's just an empty copy of myspace

by error; ; Report

hmm, it's been pretty active so far, i don't know about empty, there's just less immediate interaction yk?

by youaredoomed; ; Report

oh yeah, that's true
