what do you think will happen to console gaming with all the increases in prices and anti customer practices?

is it just a rough spot that people will move on from or will more people switch to PCs by the end of this decade?

For myself if the exclusives are there I'll still buy, if games are too expensive I'll wait for the inevitable sales on the ones I want

A good chunk of gamers either unconditionally glaze X greedy company or are reactionary and complain about women having small tits and black people in games instead of the stuff that actually matter or only play ball and gun games or all of the above, I think there is a pretty good chance they will get away with anti-consumer slop in the industry if the rest of the chunk do nothing about it :/

@SHINIQUAM  There are movements against these horrendous practices like Stop Killing Games (no idea where thats going now lol I remember there were even dum asses that u mention in the conference larping as gamers to push the "anti-woke" shit and saying that's why games r dying </3)  and yea i feel a loud chunk of the commune is just cry baby reactionaries as you've well established  so I doubt things will change till ppl realize how fucked they r

@Lulu's Mauling i was one of the people who who signed for the initiative as a EU citizen :3 😋, I've also been watching the youtuber for a really long time so, thank you freemans mind for giving me potential consumer rights in gaming🤗

@SHINIQUAM YESSS IM SO HAPPY  U GOT TO SIGN!!

Replying to @yashujibs (post is on page 1): “@SophieBubbles playstation, yeah sure not surprised if it dies next year but xbox? xbox will continue to exist, if not as a console then as a really conveni...”

@yashujibs I mean xbox is like doing terrible right now no ? They bought EVERYTHING just to dump all their calalogue on a subscription based platform that half of the ppl quit in a year, didn't do shit with the studios other then horrible games which in most cases led to shutting them down (being dumped straight to their subscription based thing on launch too which is safe to say completely fucked up the sales) and EVEN WHEN they make an incredible game (Hi-fi Rush) they toss them in the pit.  Like where's the convenience  ? That they're really easy to hack ? They continuously fuck over the customer base (much like Sony) I'm gen baffled we can call anything they do convenient but I'm willing to hear it out if it's not just cope.

@Lulu's Mauling the new XBOX CEO was left to clean up the mess, they are going to layoff 3,200 employees by the next 12 months (20% of their workforce), and are letting go 5 studios i think

@SHINIQUAM holly fucking shit it just gets worst </3  I was writing an essay about this in school and I add new ammo to add every fucking other day or like 5 hours I was meant to keep updating it like a blog but fuck no im good

@Lulu's Mauling back when 90 usd copies were a new thing with like cod mw2 and  what not

@Lulu's Mauling this might be useful then, modern physical copies of games nowadays only have a partial part of the code of the game you bought, with a key inside the disc telling the console to download the rest of the game online, this means that you cant install the physical games you bought offline and if support for that console drops (servers shut down, online shop shuts down etc) then it will be just as useless as a digital copy (i think), there is also the other type where it actually has the entire game on the disc but still some sort of confirmation key thingy, you can see this shift around after/during the xbox 360 period because alot of xbox 360 discs have a "do not make illegal copies of this disc" because the full entire game was just on the disc without any key to confirm the purchase, i miss when you just had the game on disc and it was just there on your desktop, blam 🙌 no downloads no nuthin

@Lulu's Mauling

idk much about xbox but i know a lot of people who are subscribed to game pass because its convenient

i dont like their practices and wish that they would stop but lets be honest microsoft has so much money and are willing to keep xbox living forever

@yashujibs it's convenient till you paid hundreds to play the same 5 games you could've gotten on sale

@Lulu's Mauling true dat however modern consumerism

its the thought that they could play anything, even if they dont actually play

console gaming is going down the drain for sure but i doubt people will switch to PC simply because the cost of a (good) PC these days is too much, and people would rather put up with the consoles they've already purchased + a good amount of console gamers are extremely unfamiliar with PC.

i'm hoping that companies like sony step back at some point and realize they've screwed over their business. it may be too late by the time that happens but better late than never, i guess. fully digital games that don't go below $60 and don't actually belong to the buyer is just ridiculous.

Not this first time this happened, albeit this time it's a little worse.

Alot of this rhymes with the fundamental forces that caused the The Game Crash of 1983.

Good news, this means it won't last, and we'll be in a better place after the fact.

Bad news, it's still gonna suck.

@Chillton

the issue is that nowadays gaming is too big to crash so companies can do whatever they want, pump out as much slop as they can and people would still buy it if the fifa and call of duty series still exist

@yashujibs Slop is one of the reasons behind the first crash, and even after the improvements after the crash we still have slop. It won't go away, the other aspects will just have room to improve over it. Without the crash the NES wouldn't have changed everything.

Replying to @colgate (post is on page 1): “I really hope companies don’t switch to pc only because I only have a chromebook from 2017 that can’t even run Roblox 💔 I do hate how expensive mains...”

@colgate

ok yeah goodluck to you NO FUCKING WAY that chromebook is gonna run anything

i shouldnt be talking i have a thinkpad

mainstream games these days exist simply to be benchmarks

console gaming as a medium will surely continue to exist, no matter how bloated the model becomes, its profitable and consumers will dig in regardless. But PC is looking to be the more optimal route for video game accessibility

Replying to @demolvrz (post is on page 1): “@yashujibs i mean all the consoles are going to have is the performance, the ps4 is still having games released for it even though we're 6 years into the ps5...”

@demolvrz

hell the next generation of PS and xbox might cost more than the steam machine lmao
