i talked with a friend recently about fears. we discussed the usual ones, being afraid of the dark, spiders, heights, and so on. but what about the silly or unusual ones?

my friend is terrified of butterflies and i'm deathly scared of frogs.

now i'm curious. what are some of the funniest, weirdest, or most unexpected fears you've heard of? what are some of your own ''silly'' fears?

@bunnibun7

This thread might have some people with OCD in em haha. OCD makes you have irrational fears

As a person who has it, for me, I have to scrub my hands a specific way otherwise, I feel like I've got germ-ridden hands. Like I dunked my hand in a petri dish with a million of them swimming in it.

I think about the people who leave the restroom and don't wash their hands. Oh my god 😭

I'm getting better at this though!

Yea I thought of myself potentially having OCD since most of my family of my fathers side are diagnosed with OCD and many other mental health disorders/issues! Although I just think its a small fear I have instead of being OCD since I don't exhibit most symptoms of OCD lol

It's nice to hear that someone had the same issues though but actually deals with OCD, it allows me to gain different perspectives! I definitely feel proud of you for working on it :)

and yes! I don't understand people who don't wash their hands before leaving either!!!!

@altodaydream

Same!

I used to be really afraid of dogs until one dog was so sweet and friendly to me, it moved me to tears and now... I can see how they're called man's best friend!!

@houkiboshi‧₊˚✩彡  awwww thats such a sweet story!!

quietness. when everything it's quiet, i feel like something's wrong. not like quiet of a room where everyone doesn't talk, the quietness of rural areas at night.

scopophobia but In a really weird way because I can't even look at people's pictures or any video even with movies or shows if they're looking at the camera i get really terrified 😭

There's not a phobia for it but I have the fear of cups and water bottles falling on the floor and spilling. If a cup is to close to the edge of a table I get so nervous, and schools an absolute nightmare with all the people with their tumblers with no lock cap that just sit at the very end of the desk or like right in the middle of where people walk around the classroom hehe. I think that's the silliest fear I have lol

I have masklophobia, fear of covered faces. Stuff like masks, veils, mascot costumes etc. really makes me icky.

@GORGELLA I WASCOMING HERE TO SAY THAT OMG I HATEEEEE ESCALATORS HOLY SHIT

Seeing people with pitch black glasses or any kind of glasses that don't allow me to see their eyes makes me awfuly uneasy

this is probably not a very unusual fear, but i've always been quite scared of storm drains and large whirlpools. i know i'd probably never get sucked into either of them bc i avoid them as much as possible, but still!! (''>﹏<。)

love is my message.

also frogs, but in a very specific scenario…

When I was a kid my grandma’s house was near this pond, and that place was FILLED with frogs, and some of them would some how rarely get into pipes leading to the town’s water supply.

one of my aunts was in the bathroom once and she SCREAMED, apperantly she heard a “ribbit” under her and freaked. The frog jumped out the loo, and found its way out.

but from that day on, I’ve been scared of having a frog appear in the toilet while I’m doing my business…terrified.

@𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗬 As someone who lived in a town literally named after it's Geese problem, I can understand this one honestly.

@Anemoia

OMG you get me 😭🫂

I suffer from Skathariphobia which basically just means I fear beetles. This weirdly enough applies ESPECIALLY to Lady Bugs, I have my reasonings for it. But they genuinely give me paralyzing fear.

Which to me is especially funny, because according to observation by my family and friends, that seems to be the ONLY genuine fear I have. Like I would say I have a fear for Rollercoaster Rides too but then I still go on Rollercoaster Rides with my family and friends so they don't really count that as a fear and more as like a dislike for them.

No fear of heights like my mom and sister, no fear of the dark like my sister, no fear of death like my sister. It's like the concept of fear doesn't exist to me unless a beetle is involved.

mushrooms. Ever since I was little, the sight of them just makes me scream and run away. (Only realistic ones. Stuff like goombas or other cartooney mushrooms don’t make me have that reaction)

Some other interesting phobias from ppl I’ve met irl:

- a guy who is afraid of rice. (At school ppl would get a grain of rice and chase him around…kinda cruel if u ask me)

- guy who has an irrational fear of toast

- a guy who has an irrational fear of grass. And no, I am not kidding. He refused to walk on grass as a kid because he was scared of it.

is not really a unusual one , but have a slight severe fear of people, outdoors specifically (´• ω •`)

i also have fear of bee hives , and eyes  but i try to embrace fear of eyes , and overcome everyday with exposure . drawing out fears is good way to cope with them !
