I know this might sound dramatic, but I believe that the invention of the iphone in 2009 fundamentally changed the human experience in a way not seen since like.. fire.
while other notable inventions like the car, or electricity, allowed for further movement or greater comfort or expanded technological options, none of them changed the way we interact with our world or the people around us nearly as much as the smartphone.
I'm curious in what ways you all think the iphone did (or didn't!) change the world
Instead of craving a flip phone, I just omit FB and IG from my phone, so I only see them when I'm on my PC. That way I have a phone when I'm out & about, in case I need to look something up or pretend to be busy when I'm around weird people. But instead of doom-scrolling, I can look up actual science news or whatever. The most important thing is: don't look at the comments at the bottom of most articles because that's where trolls ruin your mood.
I i remember correctly some historians consider it the start of the third industrial revolution; it is without a doubt the major technological advancement of our generation, also sad that we didn't make any cool advancement afterwards but only war tech like drones and ai or crypto stuff, it's like we've been stuck in 2015 tech for 10 years
I feel like one of the biggest things the iPhone took away from us is real innovation in phones. Once the iPhone "won" over the Blackberry it was all downhill. Every phone became a slab of a screen that offered less customization, became harder and harder to repair yourself, and got far, far bigger than it ever had to be. Hoping that the recent trends of people going back to flip phones and "dumb phones" might reignite some genuine innovation in the space again.
