I love learning random intersting tidbits of information. Let's share our knowledge with each other! Anythign counts! It could be silly, serious, big, or small.

FUN FACT!:

Sylvester Graham invented the graham cracker in 1880 because he believed that a bland, low sugar diet would prevent people from sin. He thought it would help people live in a more Godly way. Here's a short video about the topic.

Daniel Sickles, general of the ill-fated III corps at Gettysburg had previously been a congressman. He was arrested for murdering the grandson of Francis Scott Key because Key was fooling around with Sickles' wife. Sickles became the first person to plead "Temporary insanity" and beat the charges because of it.

Side note: After an argument with General Meade over his position on the battleline at Gettysburg, Sickles lost his leg to cannon fire as the III corps was being wiped out. He jumped onto a train WITH HIS SEVERED LEG and rode it back to Washington DC to report on how he thought Meade was incompetent. He donated his severed leg to the National Museum of Health and Medicine. He used to visit his leg from time to time. It's still on display there.

@Cranky Old Witch

DONATED HIS LEG. Well that is a fun fact! Maybe I'll go see his leg someday, say hi.

The guy who developed the Atari game console also founded the Chuck E. Cheese chain.

The Anglerfish (My favorite deep-sea creature) have one of the wildest mating systems on the planet. The male permanently fuses into the female’s body. He latches on, his tissues merge with hers, and he eventually becomes nothing but a pair of gonads she carries around for life.

after completing a level in a game, you might see the nintendo character mario hold up a peace sign. turns out it's not a peace sign at all! it's meant to represent the hand gesture "V for Victory," established in the 1940s by Belgian politician Victor de Laveleye before being popularized by Winston Churchill during WWII.

some moths have their scales arranged on their wings in such a way that it dampens sound, acting as a cloaking device from bats :3

the lifestyle vegetarianism actually started around 600 BCE within the two religions of Buddhism and Jainism, not the 21st century aka the 2010s in California in America as some "liberal propaganda".

it was supposed to keep us healthy as in a permanent cleanse (both physical, and mentally), and it was the basis of the straight-edge lifestyle as well that obviously came waayyy afterwards in time. meat, alcohol, and any other related ordeals were proven to do us and the planet more harm, so these religions desired change and encouraged
the idea of living longer by treating the planet and our bodies as these protected temples. it was never forced though, and it was a choice. however society/religion turned it into a force/mandated thing through time like every single religion does.

in the current timeline, vegetarianism is still common within the countries of India and Thailand - but Thailand is more complicated with it by the society following the religion but not following it, while India is more strict with it still.

@dryfryzz

Oh wow, I would have never guessed! Thanks for sharing <3 I'll have to look into it more. Another wikipedia rabbit hole to go down!

probably a very known fact thanks to films and what not.

but mixing styrofoam and gasoline is a mix that's no bueno, mostly because it makes a cheap form of napalm that's obviously sticky, flammable and will probably get you on a watchlist for dangerous individuals

(i sincerely apologize if it sounds too edgy or anything like that but i really like fire)

Fun fact!: (or many fun facts in one)

Vampire bats can run! As far as we know, they are the only bat species able to do this. Also, Vampire bats are the only bats that drink blood, and do not target humans. The animals they do drink blood from are not harmed. Bats are actually incredibly beneficial to the environment and expecially farmer's crops. They play a huge role in pest control and pollination. Saving farmers an estimated $1 billion dollars a year from crop damage, in the United States alone. One single bat typically eats 3,000 bugs per night.

Fun Fact!

The Hyoid bone is the only bone in your body that is not connected to any other bones! It helps you to speak, swallow and breathe by supporting parts of your head and neck. It also gets it's blood supply through the same artery that goes through your tongue (the lingual artery). Bonous round: Did you know bones are living tissue and require blood and oxygen supply?
