mfw someone asks me for Japanese music recommendations

Kishida Kyoudan and the Akeboshi Rockets is one of my favorite bands, and I feel the need to recommend them at any given opportunity -- I specifically recommend their albums hack/SLASH and Berserkers, though their discography is a mile long and they have stellar songs throughout, I could make a whole playlist of different songs I recommend from them--I mostly want to recommend Highschool of the Dead, Sore wa Akatsuki no You ni, Sekai wo Koete, Life Logistics, Indigo, and Entertainment Punks.
I've been obsessed with Takamachi Walk recently; they do emo/rock covers of various Touhou songs. I recommend their album Permanence, though specific songs from them I really like include Empty, Odium, and Dragon-Eating Deathloop
On that note, there's apparently a whole subgenre of specifically "emo/metal/rock covers of Touhou songs", a friend recently put me onto Foreground Eclipse and Draw the Emotional, both bands in a similar vein. I also found out about Further Ahead of Warp through this.
What a coincidence, Akeboshi Rockets also started out as a Touhou cover band. I recommend their covers of Necrofantasia, and their cover albums Super Sonic Apple Rabbit and Rolling Star
I'm fucking kicking myself for not doing this earlier, because two (correction: four) other people already beat me to recommending Mass of the Fermenting Dregs, My Dead Girlfriend, and 17 Years Old and Berlin Wall, but I'll recommend other songs/albums from those bands so as to not be as redundant--
I'll recommend Mass of the Fermenting Dregs's album Awakening:Sleeping (My favorite songs on the album being Helluva and Iranai), All Day Long by 17 Years Old and Berlin Wall, and some songs from My Dead Girlfriend's side project, My Dead Ishikawa--namely kamikakushi and kininaru aitsu
Other Japanese shoegaze/rock bands in a similar vein I recommend include Kinoko Teikoku--I think eureka is their most acclaimed work in english-speaking circles, but their entire discography is stellar, and my favorite songs are spread out across several of their albums--Kokudou Slope, Haru to Shura, Virgin Suicide, and You outside my window.
Kinoko Teikoku has long since been on indefinite hiatus, but its lead singer has a solo career, and another band that sounds similar to them is Hammer Head Shark (My favorite song by them is A To The La Lu, but I think most fans favor Kuni).
Here are some rapid-fire recommendations:
Chimanaco/Shiroi asa ni Saku (specifically their song Namida no Brownie)
Hitsujibungaku (I love their Kirameki EP, and 1999 is a cute song)
Polkadot Stingray (a huge favorite of mine, it's hard to choose songs to recommend from them...I'll recommend Ichidaiji, Telecaster Stripe, Halcyon, Out, and Jodeki)
Soutaiseiriron (their first album, Chiffon Shugi, sounds so different from everything else they've made; some specific songs I recommend from them are Shikaku Kakumei, Cinderella, TV Tokyo, Ki ni naru ano ko, and Jigoku Sensei)
Tokenai Namae (another band where it's difficult to choose things to recommend, but my favorite songs from them include Double Plutonic Suicide, Denki Shingo no Imouto, Calpis-chan, and Bokura no Tousakugokko)
Itsue (I recommend Confession, End of Sorrow, and Time Fluctuation)
Tricot (Their album Makkuro is a masterpiece, as well as the video for Unou Sanou, but I also recommend E and their EP Bakuretsu, Tricot-san, besides)
Coaltar of the Deepers (No Thank you is a contender for one of my favorite albums of all time, especially the title track)
Kinoue64 (I specifically recommend Nichijou Shoumetsu)
Ling Tosite Sigure (My favorite songs of theirs are Nakano Kill You and am 3:45; their lead singer also did the opening for Tokyo Ghoul)
EGOIST (I love their EP Fallen)
Yonige (I specifically love their song Avocado)
Girls on the Run (I recommend The Deadly Cold Day on a very cold winter day)
Diablevoix (Here's their collection of singles)
Amai Dantoudai (They're a metal band themed after the French Revolution...I'm a huge fan of their first album!)
Regal Lily (Their lead vocalist's voice is so cute, I love Ringo no Hanataba, Rickenbacker, 1997, and Transistor Radio because of her)
Uchuu Nekoko (a very dreamy, innocent-sounding shoegaze band, Kimi no you ni Ikiretara and Virgin Suicide both sound really cute)
Shojoskip (in a similar vein to the band above. I recommend Umbrella)
Melting Holidays (really cute shibuya-kei band, listen to their album Cherry Wine in the morning to instantly be in a good mood)
Uso to Chameleon (My favorites from this band are Mononoke In The Fiction, 0, and Second Hand)
Yuragi (bedside might be one of my favorite songs ever)
Pettels (Reinforced Concrete, Deja Vu, and scream are all really good)
Oh No Darkness!! (I really like their album The Silver Screen, namely Diabolo, Melody, Everything, and You, and Time Return)
Mad Jamie (I have the biggest crush on Jamie, but also her songs F**k Forever and Fight for Freedom are really good!)
Gang Parade (This is an idol group that did the soundtrack for an eroge I was really into. They did the opening theme, the main battle theme, the boss theme, and various remixes of the battle themes)
Go To The Beds (I think they were an offshoot of the idol group I mentioned above? they also contributed some songs to the same game, I love the updated boss theme and battle theme they made, but I also find myself listening to their original songs like Don't Go To The Bed and Mayday a lot)
JUNKY58% (Their first album Junky Bomb just came out; my favorite song on it might be the ending song Junky Band, it just has an "everything will be ok" feeling about it)
Tommy Heavenly6 (One of my favorite singers ever! I love her! I'm having to physically hold myself back from just linking her entire discography, so just have Heavy Starry Chain and Monochrome Rainbow)
Nano (Her album Nanoir is a classic)
Good Grief (another huge recent favorite of mine, my favorites from this band include Good Times, Mayfly, Feather, Haunt, and Highways)
Nerd Magnet (This band's songs always make me think of old Disney Channel movies for some reason; I recommend Freaks & Geeks, Bad Reputation, I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You, Hannah, and Eleanor)
The Mash (I have a huge crush on their lead singer Hal. I recommend I Hate Your Song and Overline)
Eve (A lot of his songs make me feel nostalgic; I recommend Literary Nonsense and Tokyo Ghetto)
NecryTalkie (Another band where I find the lead vocalist insanely cute, and her voice adds to the songs very well; this band's kind of infamous for their lyrics being morbid/depressing in a funny way)
and finally, Maon Kurosaki (She unfortunately passed away a few years ago, but I still hold her work very near and dear to me. She basically wrote an entire album for Highschool of the Dead, and my favorite song from her is Scars.)
BAND-MAID's a more mainstream recommendation, I'm surprised I haven't seen someone else mention them yet. ONE OK ROCK and The Pillows as well, though I think those bands might be considered old hat now.
Paledusk's become a huge recent favorite of mine, I love every song on their album, but the standouts for me are HUGs, PALEHELL, and SUPER NATURAL HIGH, I remember having those three songs on loop for hours on end.
I've been getting really into some vocaloid producers lately, namely Yuyoyuppe--specifically the albums Solitude Freak and Story of Hope (and his side project My Eggplant Died Yesterday) and Yume no Manimani by Siinamota is one of my favorite albums ever.
