Sometimes the words flow, and sometimes they just swirl around looking for a place to land.
In the latter, I find myself contemplating shades of meaning, even in common usage, juxtaposed with context, time, culture, and such.
This morning I was nursing my coffee. A few sips at a time, when the time grew shorter and I felt obliged to glug a goodly amount. I didn't chug it, nor drain it, nor did I shotgun it, as it was still a wee bit hotter than comfortable.
And thus, my shower was spent in contemplation of the various shades of describing how we drink coffee .., or perhaps any hot beverage (as temperature certainly played a part in my choice of action and as such, how my mind translated that into the particular grouping of abstract sounds that we've attached some collective meaning to).
I've settled a bit on this:
Sip<slurp<swallow<glug<chug<drained/downed?
"Nursing" your drink is a span of time, but it almost seems like end-of-life hospice care, since presumedly the drink will not survive!
You can 'pound' a brewski and in so doing, the drink is entering you quickly. And yet, in a completely different context, if YOU are being 'pounded', you are the one being entered quickly.
Just meaningless random word-thoughts.
