My number 1 favourite cake is banana cake. Grandma used to make it, so it's nostalgic to the extreme, with a cinnamon icing.
Black forest cake is a solid #2, as I quite enjoy anything with cherries in it.
Number 3, and probably equal to black forest cake, is pudding chômeur (like a maple syrup cake).

Medovik - layered honey cake popular in Eastern Europe, but if not done right, it can also be kinda meh, so it's a bit of a fifty-fifty. Generally, the more and thinner the layers, the nicer it tends to be

I've had a soft spot for pandoro since forever - and no, not panettone, pandoro. I like raisins and dry fruit, don't get me wrong, but there's just something about the simplicity and fluffiness of a pandoro that scratches the right itch, and the process of putting on the icing sugar is rather fun as well (open up the big plastic bag with the cake in it, tip the icing sugar inside, seal it, and SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE)!!! I am so glad my birthday is close to Christmas, because it means we can have pandoro for my birthday without having to pay an arm and a leg to source a Christmas cake from Italy (there is also the benefit of mince pies, but that's besides the point).
