RPG maker horror games

I remember playing Ib, Mad Father, The Crooked Man, and a couple other horror games back in the day and I loved them!! Idk if people still make them, but I hope they make a comeback! What's everyone's favorite RPG maker horror game and what do you like or dislike about the ones you've played? 

Ahh, this is my childhood right here.

Growing up, I never had a whole lot of money for games. So these free to play RPGMaker games were one of my biggest intros to horror gaming. Ib, Mad Father, Witch's House, Misaoー You name it, I was there! 

Yume Nikki in particular was the focal point of a several year long special interest for me. Starting somewhere in middle school and ending around the time I was finishing high school and gearing up for college. I still love it, though I don't completely immerse my every waking moment into it like I used to. (Nowadays, that love is saved for a different stabby bastard 🤭)

Hell, those games were also some of my earliest experiences with roleplaying and cosplay as well! When I was really young, I had a roleplay blog for Mary from Ib, and I cosplayed her to a con as well! My memaw helped me sew a custom dress and everything :]

Awh. It's really nice thinking about all that again! What a nice nostalgic way to end the night :]

I've... only played one... but definitely is one of my fav games. Saihate Station is proof that they're still small groups making that type of games

It came out early last year and the dlc the following month. I still gotta to play the dlc cause the story is so great chdhdjej

It's about two guys trapped in a haunted train, Shion and Haru...! They're coworkers..!!! At first, they don't know how they got there, but the game slowly explains show you what happened. And that's all! It's actually a very short game, it catched my eyes because it was the first time I saw a story with a male yandere

ib was a core memory for my teen years. I still love it and want to replay it from time to time. I'm not sure if this counts but I think it was made partly with RPG maker, Omori! It's such a stunning story and the battle system is really unique!

Aaah I basically grew up on RPG Maker horror! My favorite of the classics was always Ib, it was one of the first ones I actually played myself and the chase scenes scared the hell out of me lol. I was also very fond of Angels of Death, a game about a girl who help a serial killer escape an underground compound in exchange for killing her. That one actually got an anime adaptation and everything!

My favorite overall would have to be Your Turn to Die, which uses RPG Maker in a really interesting way as it's fully a point-and-click visual novel that plays sort of like Ace Attorney. It's about 11 people who get trapped in a death game where they have to vote who dies. I mention it outside of the "classics" because even though the first part came out in 2017, there wasn't any English translation until 2019. That, and the final chapter is still being made! 

There's honestly been a crazy comeback when it comes to RPG Maker horror in the indie gaming scene. Studio Investigrave is a small indie team and they've made a lot of good ones in the past few years, like Dead Plate and Jack Pot Crash Course. Witch's Heart is another game that's ongoing but almost done and has a lot of content (I'm still not caught up T_T). And Saihate Station was mentioned and I have to mention it again because it's really that good. The site Itch.io is a great place to find newer RPG Maker horror games.

Funamusea's games always hold a special place in my heart, they're great. Mogeko Castle was the first I played lol and The Gray Garden to this day is the best, filled to the brim with extremely lovable and wonderful characters

I never really played a lot of RPG horror games, but I do really like Fear and Hunger for the art style. While Fear and Hunger is my favorite, Angels of Death still holds a place in my heart as the first ever one I played (still haven't finished the game unfortunately). 

Does Anyone remember the Strange Men Series? I used to play them all the time back in 2020, and I liked them a lot. I just never met anyone else who really played them. My favorite one was definitely The Sand Man.
