Left 4 Dead 2's gotta be my latest fixation lately I love the game to death

I can't tell if this was just a Valve thing, but games closer to the late 2000s started to really incorporate voicelines for EVERYTHING, and it's what gives you immersion and fun now whenever you play stuff like TF2 or L4D, I've always been a sucker for attention to detail

Left 4 Dead 2's personally one of [if not] the best zombie horde shooters of its era and this era, it's held up for what'll be close to two decades and once you find out modding, you never ever go back

It's not a you thing, there used to be pretty strict limitations regarding audio file sizes that made it rare for multiplayer games to have too many voice lines. Resident Evil: Outbreak for example (the spiritual predecessor to L4D) planned/recorded hundreds of lines for each of the 8 playable characters... only for them to only be able to realistically have ~50 per character (mostly cutscene dialogue, with 10 in game 'call actions' for each of the 8) while an "ad lib" system of on-screen contextual flavor text was used, likely being invented as a response to this limitation.

Even with Left 4 Dead 2, you'll find that they also recorded faaaaar more lines that what made it into the final game, and that it got to the point that some of the other departments/executives at Valve were getting mad, because they were eating up the available space in the game with voicelines, and Chet Falizsek (the writer of L4D/L4D2) was something of a rebel when it came to being told what to do, so he kept writing and recording more anyways.

The l4d series has got to be in my top 10 maybe top 5 franchise and that says a lot especially since there hasn't been a new game in like 16 years or something. Im still surprised that I am hearing new lines from the characters even today, honestly it sucks how modern games have dropped the ball when it comes to voice lines that are natural and not forced, they all sound so fake and forced imo...
