I really liked the idea of this being a throwback site and it being super active and interactive. But it seems like everyone is more concerned about posting posting posting than actually interacting. I could be wrong but I just see soooo many posts but like not any kudos, comments, posting on bulletins, messages and the groups are just a big nothing sandwich. idk i wanna continue to be excited about this website but it feels a little like every other egocentric social media when no one actually interacts fr. lmk your thoughts (though im prepared for this to go unseen lolz)

omg i totally agree!!! i think it just takes a few ppl to continue interacting then sooo many more will start :P

@lovesicklyss yes! i've deffo been trying to be active and read up on a lot of ppls stuff. i try to balance posting with being interactive with other users! i feel like it also helps ppls notifs go up way more than just posting a bunch

@lyssia lovesick ᒉ𐭩 i think youre right! i just got here yesterday and im already having a lot of fun just responding to peeps lol

tho i tend to forget about kudos >-< this thread was a good reminder to start tossing those around like candy

@drifter i'm the same sometimes haha!! like i try to check everything bc i sometimes miss notifs (i.e. this post)

I think part of it has to do with people having been conditioned by typical social media norms that encourage posting to keep getting boosted by the algorithm. Well, there’s no algorithm here, so there’s no reason to do that. Old habits die hard. This format is encouraging since it encourages users to be looser. More free form if you willΒ

@Pancreas Harvester I AGREE! i legit had to remind myself too that since there's no algo, it also encourages me to seek out certain content and curate my blog subscriptions and who i friend to keep up with stuff!

@Pancreas Harvester

Came here to say much the same! It's conditioning. The bog sites that have run the show for years require only passive interaction at best. Doom scrolling and the like. Sites like these require you to be active if you're going to get anything out of itΒ

Definitely agree, I've joined so many groups but no one is talking in them. Wish people were actually active in them...

@⋆°࿔ π“ƒπ“²π’Œπ’Œπ“²πœ—πœšΒ°β‹† I would say that joining super niche groups kinda helps. i'm only in 2 but they're super niche that the people in there are actually passionate about the topic, which keeps it fairly active. i think it's also the bittersweet side of retro websites, bc the groups are kinda like discord's grandparent and it can be hard to stay active sometimes bc we're used to HUGE discord servers that are always buzzing

@pondjoose Yeah IΒ get that, Im in very different groups some with very few people. Still not much talk in there, but depends a lot on the people

Trick is ... if you're going to START a group, you have to promote it a bit to get going, and you have to be ACTIVE on it!Β

So many folks start a group, then just abandon it. It's frustrating.Β

Meh, you're right of course.Β

It's worse now than ... say ... 25 years ago, but even then, the old forums and message boards? You'd have like 1000 members and 10 active.Β

@Cranky Old Witch i'm glad to know it's not just a recent thing! I am glad in recent weeks that it has become just a little bit more interactive :))
