Recently, the current owners of the MySpace website expressed interest in bringing the site back as a social platform, like how it used to be. I've asked this already in my bulletins but I'd like to know how the general oldweb community feels about this. So are you gonna check out MySpace once it comes back? And do you think sites like SpaceHey, Napoleonite and FriendRewind will still be allowed to function once MySpace becomes a social platform again?
it is not guaranteed MySpace will be back as the social platform as we knew it. it might end up a web3 technobro platform enshittified out of box, might be something decent. we don't know
so napo, sh and fr are still absolutely have all rights to exist

Too young to experience Myspace for myself, so I'll be glad to see a revival with the 00s aesthetic/style.聽

Probably gonna be changed too much, if they want profit they'll end up being just like any other social media (reels, shorts, tiktoks...)
@permanentdaylight聽this is what I'm worried about - in order for it to succeed, it needs to be profitable and I'm curious how that can realistically be achieved. Back when MySpace was popular, popup ads and banners at the top/bottom of the web page were the primary online advertising medium and neither of those seem like the main way to advertise online anymore. So will they resort to tracking us in the background and selling the data like Meta? Or will they have to incorporate short-form advertisements somehow? Neither of those options are necessarily desirable.

Yeah, I really don't see how it'll be profitable long-term unless they make it... Not myspace.
I hate the idea of it, i worry it will take from sites like this, be overrun by millenials, and it likely will not have the html customization that these myspace-like sites have.
It's literally owned by an AI tech marketing group now. I will not be giving them my data or time.
I really don't need to destroy the planet while making cute blogs and new friends. I will just stary here where it's cozy and not owned by a dirty corp.聽

@foggywinter i'm not that hopeful either but tbh myspace was toxic bcs the whole internet was toxic asf at that time. Bullying was unfortunately very normalized online back then :(

To be owned by an AI tech company is never a good sign. FriendRewind respects the values and ethos of the OG myspace so as far as I'm concerned, this is where I'm staying

I don't think it's gonna be going anywhere tbh, some people might join and get bored after a few weeks considering how rotted all of our brains are by mainstream social media. If it does take off I don't think it'll be anything amazing tbh, maybe I'm too much of聽 a negative nancy tho
