i have one i creatively named "masterlist". i put almost everything i listen to in it, if i remember to. at the moment it has 3,756 songs. compared to some, im not sure it's a whole lot, but it certainly feels like it when it takes so long to scroll to the bottom. i like smaller, more-curated playlists too, but if i just listened to those i wouldn't get to experience the feeling of pressing shuffle and hearing a song i haven't listened to in months/years -or to start feeling low when an alice in chains song comes on, and then get picked back up by kevin gates singing something about freakin and booty holes...ย she don't wanna - kevin gatesย .
do you like long playlists that you add on to for years? do you like daily/monthly playlists?
-i like the idea of the monthly playlists. i see a lot of girls my age do that. i wouldn't see myself starting a new playlist each month and trying to create a "vibe" for the next thirty days, but i could go along with adding what i liked listening to each day, and keeping it as sort of a way to reminisce. sites like last.fm have kind of taken my attention when it comes to that idea though. i could see any song i listened to (on spotify or last.fm's player) from now all the way back to 2020. on stats.fm i can see what i was listening to on a certain account back to 2017 -which is fascinating. all that data being saved until i decided 5 years later to actually want to record it all... though back to the reminiscing thing, i still think that's a good idea: to be able to search for a month or specific time period and then immediately being able to immerse myself in it again.
as for those playlists created by spotify, i'm not so into them. the ones that only take songs i've already listened to are alright, but i dislike being pushed the most popular songs in a genre -or those created by imaginary bands that just help spotify take back a percentage of streams to keep its pockets filled... i'm not so into that. i've discovered some amazing small bands through spotify, but i'm not sure spotify itself led them into my sight.
how do you listen to music? are playlists unimportant? do you throw every song into one and click shuffle? do you enjoy taking the time to curate playlists for specific moods and float between those? or do you listen more casually -whatever's on or easy?
