Spear of the Usurper
NieR Replicant story goes:
"In a far-off land, there was a man who acted as a double for the nation's prince, performing duties in his stead as was required.
One day, having finished his work, he returned to the prince's chamber to find the princess lying naked in his bed. As the double stood in place, dumbfounded, the man who shared his face sneered and invited him to join them."
"The double loved the prince's sister, and he felt that the princess—who admired him as her brother—loved him as well. Indeed, she was the only thing that kept him going in an otherwise miserable job, for the prince was a most despicable man indeed."
"Eventually, it came to pass that a war was to be waged under the prince's command.
The night before it was to begin, the prince took his double aside and promised him a night with his sister if he could bring him the head of the enemy general. And as the prince chuckled with delight, the double took up his spear and thrust it through the prince's gaping mouth."
"The war over, the "prince" made a queen of his sister, and would inflict wounds upon his own face and throat, an act which would occur every time she called out to him using her brother's name.
Before long, the "prince" was found dead, his face burned and a spear thrust through his open mouth.
The man's face, hideously burned, was the very picture of serenity."

Angel's Folly!
NieR Automata story goes:
"Once, there was a demon who held an affinity for angels. He dreamed of serving alongside them and their god, yet cursed the impossibility of it all. Then one day, he came to earth, bringing himself a step closer to heaven."
"An angel was sent to slay the demon. When the evil one saw his foe, he burst into tears and revealed his plan. "Please," the demon begged, "you must give me a set of white wings for my very own!""
"The angel agreed to trade a set of white wings for the head of another demon. Overjoyed, the demon killed one of his own and plucked the head right off its still-warm body."
"The angel then led the demon to heaven, where he underwent centuries of the cruelest tortures imaginable. Finally, the pain was so great that he lost consciousness—at which point his dark wings turned the promised shade of white."
False Pact!
Drakengard 3 story goes:
One of the villagers was a compulsive liar. He bandied a sword about carelessly, boasting of his demon-slaying exploits. Soon he had lost the truth of all his peers.
One day, a traveler arrived asking the way to a lair of demons. The villagers were silent, but the great liar spoke. "Have no fear!" he said. "I will lead you to the demons' den!"
The man lied and lied, and each time the traveler believed him, they became more lost. But when the liar finally showed the true path, he was forced to save the traveler from the demon.
"I finally told the truth," said the dying liar, "and now I must pay for it." The traveler slayed the demon, became a hero, and has carried his new-found friend's sword ever since.
