What's your longest-lasting hyperfixation/obsession?

Whether you're neurospicy (autism, ADHD, etc.) or not, how long did your obsessions last? Days, weeks, months, years, decades? What are your current obsessions and how long have you been interested in those?

For me, it was a near decade-long fixation on The Little Mermaid. Before I was introduced to Frozen in 2013, I experienced my first hyperfixation via meeting Ariel sometime in the 2000s, and that obsession lasted almost ten years - probably my longest-lasting flow state. Not only was I so obsessed that I've forever decided red is my favorite color (Ariel's hair color, duh), I also became fixated on mermaids as a whole. I would beg my dad to put in the DVD I can watch the movie (I know, I'm old 馃槶) so often to the point where he had to restrict my Little Mermaid TV time, lol.

No, this is not聽a competition!

My interests tend to come and go (a lot of it is also my depression making certain interests go quicker), but when they're present I become VERY obsessive. Either weeks or months.

My biggest interest has to be zombies and anything undead, Frankenstein being the biggest influence of such interest. I've been obsessed with Frankenstein in general since high school.

With with games/shows they alternate a lot more often, ones that always alternate in coming back are Blasphemous, Outlast, JJBA (SBR Especially), DOOM. DOOM and Blasphemous are the longest lasting ones, I've had them for YEARS. Idv as well but I don't like talking about that one.
For many years it was FNAF but as of the last few years it's faded away slowly (though I still love it). But I was OBSESSED with it (I'd say since it came out in 2014).

@UndeadFlesh i sometimes have this obsessive spark with random things too! my depression also snatches it away ridiculously quickly and it is very irritating. i don't like it when i'm introduced to something i genuinely enjoy but then that wick burns out too soon聽

@eevarrlee Exactly!! It sucks because when I obsess over something I feel this urge to learn everything about it, but when it goes away I no longer have that urge and it makes me sad. Sometimes I'm left feeling like I only enjoyed that thing in a "surface level" way :')

Liking things surface level isn't bad either, just my obsessive side hatesss it.

@UndeadFlesh i can relate! its even worse when i've spent money on it and then that obsession simmers down into a mild interest and i can't get my money back 馃槶 but i have no regrets either, i just wish i spent my money a little more wisely

@eevarrlee SAME OML. I have so much merch from games that I loved for a moment then abandoned! I'm trying to be wiser with my money, but the urge to buy gets sooo intense. As an example I have a Victor Gideon ita bag that I spent a ton of money on, I still LOVE Gideon but I wish I made an ita bag after a longer lasting interest instead. That only means I should make another one...

been a proud osc fan through and through since i was about 7

i feel very connected to it

how many times must i say i鈥檓 not sorry?

for me its my extremely nerdy obsession with motorsports since i was super young

100% anime!!!! cuz i got into it when I was like 9 withh SAO and FMAB BUT i took a 4 year long break and then I was like 16 when I got back into it so all togetherr like 9 years watching anime?? and the movie taht got me back into it wuz A Silent Voice cuz i really related to Shoya at the time in some ways. and then I wanted to start watching more again

One of em is def Avenged Sevenfold despite thinking they've been full of bullshit since HTTK. Something about all their songs prior to going to shit is they're just all sooooo good. Also ALMOST everything they did for COD sounded amazing. Speaking of, Military FPS lol. I'm in love with those.

I think for me it's the horror genre prolly since..2018. It really grew in 2020 when I was at home watching movies and soon when I was able to watch movies on my phone! I really loved to watch classics or movies that are underrated. One I'm currently watching the most is Hereditary go check it out!聽
