What's your longest-lasting hyperfixation/obsession?

Whether you're neurospicy (autism, ADHD, etc.) or not, how long did your obsessions last? Days, weeks, months, years, decades? What are your current obsessions and how long have you been interested in those?

For me, it was a near decade-long fixation on The Little Mermaid. Before I was introduced to Frozen in 2013, I experienced my first hyperfixation via meeting Ariel sometime in the 2000s, and that obsession lasted almost ten years - probably my longest-lasting flow state. Not only was I so obsessed that I've forever decided red is my favorite color (Ariel's hair color, duh), I also became fixated on mermaids as a whole. I would beg my dad to put in the DVD I can watch the movie (I know, I'm old 😭) so often to the point where he had to restrict my Little Mermaid TV time, lol.

Undertale/Deltarune has been a part of my everyday life since 2015 and shaped all of my greatest friendships starting from childhood into my adult life. It will forever have a special place in my heart as the series that changed me as a person fundamentally.

Alongside that, NieR and Love Live have been a part of my life since around 2020. Love Live idols have pulled me out of some of my hardest days, and NieR let me witness a beautiful story and introduced me to a wonderful community where I met a lot of great friends.

Those 3 are the longest lasting but Okegom and Black Butler have also been circling my head constantly for around 5 years now.

I've been listening to some bands for almost a decade, but that might just be "being a fan of something" more than an actual hyperfixation.
I've definitely been hyperfixated on my own writing for almost a decade though. Like I don't think I've gone a week since 2017 where I haven't thought of, worked on, or referenced my own writing projects, which is mainly the same writing project.
Other than that, VTubers have been a hyperfixation of mine since 2020, and even though I have definitely lost my spark for it. I still keep up with it though just not as often.
I had a deep hyperfixation for old warships from 2019 to 2024 to the point I, for a brief moment, studied to become a Maritime Engineer.
I've had a bunch of shorter but very passionate hyperfixations, like She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, The Owl House, Twin Peaks or Elfen Lied. These are still things I really enjoy and from time to time I still go back to them but I'm definitely not as obsessed with them as I previously was. There's so much to name honestly

I also hyperfixate on people in my life pretty easily, considering Limerence is a thing, which has recently been more prominent in my life haha.

I dunno if being in unrequited love with someone for over a decade counts but there's that.

I've been a fan of Resident Evil consistently since the early 2000s (should clarify: the decade, not the century, since some people seem to think 2011 = early 2000s). At times I'd say it bordered on hyperfixation/obsession, but I don't know how one would begin to separate that from devoted fandom.

I once listened to Nirvana so excessively to the point that I plowed through their entire release catalog and almost every single unreleased demo ever to exist on the net -- that I've stopped listening to them very often since I was about 18-19 so that I wouldn't completely ruin their discography for myself by having overplayed them (for example: most of the tracks on Nevermind are exhausting to me because I heard them so often).

@ThePatchedVest I feel the same way about some movies or TV shows I've watched repeatedly each year now. Whenever I put on a movie that I've seen before, my mind immediately goes to "ugh now i gotta drad myself through the boring parts - i just wanna get to the good parts!" so sometimes my movie mood is a bit ruined after that, lol.

@eevarrlee I used to rewatch my favorite movies (or at least, my favorite scenes) all the time as a kid. Terminator 2, 28 Days/Weeks Later, Underworld, a couple of the Godzilla films, the first Resident Evil film, etc. I probably rewatched each of the Jurassic Park trilogy of films thousands of times. Now, I struggle to rewatch any movies that I've already seen even if it's to watch it with someone whose never seen it before, and even if it's movies I really like. There are films in my Top 50 that I've only seen twice or a handful of times and don't really have that desire to revisit because that's time wasted I could be doing other things. I mean, a large part of that is because my long-term memory for such stupid things is ridiculous. So, for that reason I'm a bit more easy going with TV shows, since they're longer-form with multiple narratives, they stick less than movies do: I know I've seen Daria, Doctor Who (2005), Fargo S1-2 and Daredevil a handful of times.

Like the aforementioned Jurassic Park was one of those films that I had seen so many times that by the age of 14, I could almost perfectly recite the entirety of the film inside my head, not a single line of dialogue even slightly off, every sound effect, music composition, on demand if I ever needed to pass the time in my brain out of boredom. I could identify any part of that movie from a ~1-second soundbyte on a TV in the other room and even accurately notice if the pitch was slightly off (as old TV airings sometimes used to be).

When I turned five, my older brother gave me the "Yellow Submarine" single. "Eleanor Rigby" was the B side. It was the first record I owned that wasn't something like "Winnie the Pooh" or whatever.

It's been more a less a half a century and I'm still obsessed with The Beatles.

since i think since either 2019 or 2018 i was insanely obsessed with both the powerpuff girls and rowdyruff boys which lasted until like mid 2025 ˙𐃷˙they all still have a very special place in my heart 4ever tho

@melty marshmallow Omg, Powerpuff Girls?? My siblings and I absolutely LOVED that show, to the point where we had a DVD copy of the 2002 Powerpuff Girls movie for so long it became unusable from how much we watched it as kids, lol.

Ive had the BIGGEST obsession with eddsworld since I found it in 2017!! I read all the comics and I watched all the episodes. I think if I had to pick a favorite episode I like ruined that ones pretty funny XD

I've been interested in FNAF since around 2nd grade, I'm 18 now and graduated high school

But if we wanna do interests we've be ACTIVE in consistently, for 2-3 years I've been obsessed with my ocs (which is very boring but still)

i think my longest one so far was TF2, which lasted about 2-3 years i believe? but i'm coming up on the 2 year mark for my MHA/Tenya Iida obsession as well.

Weirdly enough it's the Lego Ninjago show ever since I was a kid I absolutely adored it and still do now (Dragons Rising not so much) I know it's super childish but I've been an avid fan for a good like 13-14 years and still collecting sets to this day too, always loved the storytelling and characters and have never once actually met someone apart of what "fandom" there is for Ninjago but regardless still hyperfixated also am obssesed with video games but not gonna sit here and list the bajillions of games I'm obsessed with...,

Night in the woods. It lasted like 2 months maybe a little more. It really reminded me that everyday life can be good and i loved the characters, also it was november and outskirts of the town i live in felt kinda like possum springs, so i started going for long walks and discovering new places and making photos, oh man it was really cool

Fullmetal Alchemist/Brotherhood. It was the second anime i watched when i was around 8 yrs. While it slightly traumatized me, i haven't been able to find an anime that tops it. I watched the 03 version first.. and well, i was happy once i finished brotherhood lol

I've been obsessed ever since, i watch it every time i need comforting or even listen to the soundtrack playlist i made.

I overall prefer Brotherhood, but i deeply appreciate Trisha Elrics lore in the original. The concept of Sloth being the failed transmutation of their mother is much darker and i love it.

I think it has to be Harry Potter. For some reason it always pops back up when I least want it too lol

AudHDer here :girdance: I always seem to go blank when I get excited about answering a question lol. I randomly get hyper fixated on ancestry type stuff sometimes. It can last weeks or a couple months. It fascinates me for some reason. Lately I've been fixated on learning more random things about Australia. It's not quite hyperfixation level, but definitely something I'm fixated on in between life-duties.

TLM was my favorite when I was little, too. My favorite now is The Princess and The Frog. It's such a good movie and how can you not love Tiana.

my the lion king fixation i think? it started somewhere in kindergarten and lasted up to like the 3rd or 4th grade. i always picked a hyena when i was playing with other kids (we called it just 'wild cats' cuz everyone had to choose a large cat) and i always said that my fav continent was africa cuz yk tlk takes place there. and i even remember doing a mock up wedding with one of the characters from the lion guard 😭😭

I've been a fan of JoJo's for like a decade now, just under half my entire life. It's been on and off thing, but I always find my way back to it. I try to act nonchalant, but I still get a little bit giddy each month when I go to read the newest chapter...
