Nothing of note lately, but I am replying to keep this thread on my radar!
I’m currently reading 1984 by George Orwell, really makes you think about how some places on this planet are practically dealing with what ever nonsense is happening in the book!
Like having thoughts/feelings on a topic or political issue could be punishable and or everything is restricted and belittled.
I’ve seen people read the book as if it was dystopian (it is) BUT it’s reality in its own way and that’s a bit scary to me.
Over all I’m enjoying it, the next books I have on my reading list are ‘The Idiot’, ‘2666’, ‘project Hail Mary’ and etc.
I also do write my own fanfics but I don’t share them :)
@bunnibun7 i always hate saying 1984 is my favorite book because it feels so bottom rung "im so smart" cliche but it really is. its probably the novel i have re read the most times.
Not even just as a sort of fear of it becoming true, but as like a character study on human civilization and the peoples nature to normalize elements of its own indoctrination with little force other than social momentum,
the ability for the group to not just guide someones mind through fear, but to actually legitimately make them believe nonsense just by association.
The whole concept of like, destroying language itself to manipulate how one could even conceptualize individuality and the idea of their rights is so horrifically true to life and terrifying how much that would absolutely work.
It just paints a world in such detail it really puts you in it and makes you fully live in it, smell it. It doesnt hold back in presenting the actual negative nature of everyday man either,
its not just the innocent people and the evil state, it shows the role of the people willingly killing liberty themselves, with vicious passion.
When i read 1984 im not so much thinking about it being a true future, its mostly just affirming my view on why i fear my fellow man.

Everybody thinks of "big brother" in that book.
but the terror in it is far more your neighbor. which is so fucking real.
